In a statement, Kmart explained the issue: ‘When the cup is filled with hot liquid, the lid may rapidly release and pop off as there is no pressure release valve.’
This posed a significant burn risk if the lid unexpectedly dislodged while containing hot beverages.
The ACCC confirmed that at least one person had been injured by the product.
Shoppers were urged to stop using the cup immediately and return it to the store where it was purchased.
‘Contact the store of purchase if you are unable to return the product to the store,’ Kmart advised.
