Better than KFC? Popular fast-food dupe launches another irresistible item
- Replies 8
While it may be more convenient to pick up takeaway fast food than it is to cook it at home every night, that doesn't always mean it's cheap (or healthy).
So, if you like eating fast food but don’t like the queues, calories, or price tag, then this exciting new product dropping at Woolworths may be the perfect ‘fakeaway’ solution for you.
A brand called Tegel Take Outs has launched a new item in Australia that social media users have been raving about.
The brand first gained popularity overseas, with its succulent burger fillets and delicious chicken portions being compared to the flavour experience at KFC.
The brand began as a poultry company in 1961, and since then, they have been serving both Kiwis and Aussies alike, building up its portfolio to include products ranging from chicken tenders to baked burgers and southern drumsticks.
Now, they’re hitting Woolworths stores with a tantalising new option – the Tegel Take Outs Louisiana Style (500g) and Nashville Style Chicken Tenders (500g).
Do note, however, that there is a bit of a difference between the two types. The Louisiana version promises more of a mild, traditional flavour, whereas the Nashville style is on the spicier side.
Both started hitting Woolies’ shelves at the beginning of the month, with shoppers able to purchase a convenient pack of both varieties for only $15.
A number of food bloggers have been reviewing the product online, with one by the name of @nectoriouspapi1 raving about the chicken tenders range on his social media page.
‘Run, don’t walk to Woolies because the viral fakeaway KFC burgers now come in tenders,’ he said in a clip.
‘There is the hot version, and there is also the standard version which is more in the Original [Twister] style. I am excited to try them. I am definitely making Twisters tonight. Enjoy!’ He continued.
He followed up his video by recreating a replica of KFC’s Zinger Twister using the tenders, adding tomato, lettuce, wrap bread and a homemade sauce of mayonnaise, lemon and pepper.
‘This tastes exactly like KFC, I promise you, and it’s absolutely delicious,’ they said.
The internet was abuzz with the news, with social media users expressing their excitement and interest in trying the product.
‘I tried this, and it’s a 10/10,’ one commented.
‘Stop sharing them! You’ll sell them out,’ another joked.
‘I absolutely love it, and so does the whole family. I would highly recommend it. Easy preparation, delicious, and so worth it!’ One more replied.
‘When these first came out, and we tried them for the first time. We said this is better than going to KFC,’ someone else shared.
However, others needed more convincing about whether the product was worth the price tag.
‘People that say this tastes the same as KFC have faulty taste buds,’ one wrote.
While another stated: ‘They are so expensive. I would rather buy KFC, which comes with all the sides.’
‘Why are these products so expensive? I can’t justify paying $14-$15 for them,’ someone added.
‘I bought these, but I’m not sure what the craze is all about?’ Another responded.

A spokesperson for Woolworths told reporters that because the Tegel Take Outs Chicken Burgers received a ‘great response’ from customers, their team introduced a new range.
‘That’s why we’re especially excited about our new chicken tenders from Tegel – worth crossing the road for!’
‘The coated chicken tenders are available in “Louisiana” and “Nashville” flavours. You can find them at almost all Woolworths stores nationally,’ they continued.
But this isn’t the first time Tegel Take Outs made waves in Australia. In September last year, there was similar excitement over the burger fillet product from the brand.
An Aussie shared a two-part video with her 16,100 social media followers using Tegel Take Outs Louisiana-Style Burgers. She assembled the KFC burger dupe by combining chicken, lettuce, cheese, her own take on the chain's pepper mayo, and a seeded bun.
Fitness and health coach Bec Hardgrave also compared their burger to KFC, scoring them ‘20/10’.
‘Need to make it again. [Will] buy the real one and compare!’ She claimed. You can read the rest of the story here.
