Bathroom terror! Aussie mum discovers creepy-crawly surprise

Imagine you're getting ready for bed, and as you step into the bathroom, you're met with a strange surprise. The lights flicker on, revealing a mystery substance emerging from the tiles, or even worse, creepy crawlies in front of your shower.

This scenario became a reality for one mum who recently shared her experience on a popular Facebook page, sparking a wave of reactions from other users.

The photo of the bathroom floor was met with shock and horror, with most users mistaking the white strands for worms, while others wondered if it was some kind of noodle.

One thing's for sure, this mum's bathroom ordeal is enough to give anyone heart palpitations at first glance!

Well, it turns out that the white stringy ‘creatures’ in the bathroom were not worms after all! After much speculation and even a few shivers down the spine, the Aussie mum later revealed that the strange sight was caused by none other than a rubber-backed bath mat.

'It's from a bath mat melting to the floors,' she explained, saying that it had been left on the heated floor for too long, causing it to melt and leave behind these pesky rubber strands.

Phew, we can all breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the bathroom was not infested with creepy crawlies! However, the Aussie mum now faces the task of removing those stubborn rubber strands from her bathroom floor.

Fortunately, the power of social media came to the rescue once again.

Fellow members of the Facebook page offered up a range of helpful suggestions, including the use of a 'goo remover' like Orange Power Sticky Spot and Goo Dissolver, a hairdryer, a window or paint scraper, WD40, and even eucalyptus oil.

Good Housekeeping suggests an additional tip for removing the rubber strands in the bathroom: applying a spray lubricant, like the type used on squeaky hinges, to a nylon scrubber (not directly onto the tile to avoid staining the grout). Scrub the affected area until the rubber loosens, then wipe dry with a paper towel.

With so many tips to choose from, the mum has a fighting chance against those pesky rubber strands. Here's hoping she can bid farewell to the remnants of the melted bath mat and move on to better things!

But perhaps the real takeaway here is the importance of hanging up a bath mat after showering. It may seem like a small detail, but it could save you a lot of trouble in the long run. If you ever find yourself in possession of a rubber-backed bath mat, be sure to remove it from heated surfaces before it's too late. Lesson learned!

Key Takeaways

  • An Aussie mum recently posted a photo on social media of white stringy strands in her bathroom, causing some to mistake them for 'worms'.
  • After much speculation, it was revealed that the strands were actually molten rubber from a rubber-backed bath mat left too long on heated floors.
  • The woman received helpful advice from fellow Facebook users on how to remove the rubber, highlighting the importance of proper bath mat maintenance.

Speaking of bathroom surprises, it seems that unusual finds are not limited to 'worms' in the bathroom. One Sydney resident stumbled upon a yellow growth in the corner of their bathroom and turned to a local Facebook group for answers.

I don't use mats in my bathroom I use bath mats and wash them everyday.

The second story if the yellow growth ...that bathroom looked filthy no wonder there was growth
Many years ago we lived in the south west of WA in a double story house
Downstairs there was a bathroom/laundry with a door leading outside. One morning, after heavy rain, the tile floor and back tiled area was literally crawling with thousands of millipedes.
What a job getting rid of them, spent hours sweeping them all up. For about a week they kept coming but we managed to keep them out of the house by putting talc across the doorway. Hope to never see another millipede in my life.
