Bargain hunters tell all: Is ALDI still the go-to store for bargains?

With the cost of living on the rise, we all want to save some extra bucks on everyday items. And let's face it, with the economy being a bit unpredictable lately, we need to make our money go as far as possible.

One area where we can feel the pinch is grocery shopping. It's a necessary expense but one that can add up pretty quickly.

That's why so many Aussies are looking for bargains, and one retailer that's been catching our attention is ALDI.

They're known for their budget-friendly prices and have become a favourite for many bargain hunters trying to stretch their grocery budget further.

However, as many shoppers share their experiences with the ‘dwindling’ number of purchases they make at the store, the burning question on everyone's mind is: Is ALDI still the go-to store for Aussie bargain-hunters?

Recently, the ALDI Mums Facebook group has been buzzing with members sharing their insights and experiences on whether ALDI still holds the top spot regarding budget shopping.

One shopper wrote on a post: ‘So, I was reading a few posts the last couple of weeks about ALDI being just as costly as Coles or Woolworths.’

The customer then revealed that the complaints ‘convinced’ her to do her grocery shopping at Coles to see the price comparisons herself.

She continued: ‘I can tell you now if you shop at ALDI. KEEP shopping there.’

The shopper explained that her grocery bill was ‘alarmingly high’ after purchasing ‘non-brand items, fresh food, and long-life items’.

She added: ‘Also, shopping at larger supermarkets means more choice, so my trolley had more items I probably didn't need.’

‘ALDI from now on!’

Many group members echoed this sentiment, with some claiming that despite some price increases, they still prefer the simple and efficient shopping experience that ALDI provides.

One user shared: ‘I agree. I tried this recently when I was sick and ordered online at Coles. Oh my gosh, I didn't get everything I needed, and my bill still turned out to be a lot more expensive.’

‘It's a pain to go to two stores sometimes, but definitely worth it!’

Another added: ‘I couldn't agree more. When you go shopping at the other stores, you will inevitably buy more things as simply put; there are more things to choose from.’

‘ALDI is simple to shop at, it's small and doesn't confront you with a million different items to choose from.’

While some have acknowledged that prices at ALDI are on the rise, it's important to note that prices are increasing across all retailers. Therefore, shopping at ALDI is still ultimately more cost-effective when comparing prices.

One person pointed out: ‘ALDI is going up, but so are all the others. I still save so much more going to ALDI and picking up a few unavailable products at Coles.’

‘I still do the big shop at ALDI, but it has increased significantly. I get the same things the majority of the time and now up over $300 per week for the four of us, shopping modestly too,’ another said.

‘Just bloody expensive everywhere, but we need food.’

Meanwhile, some suggested checking out the local greengrocers for fresh produce and shopping around for other grocery items at other retailers.

One comment read: ‘The cheapest way to shop for me is at greengrocers for fruit and veg, at ALDI for most things including meat, and at Woolies for stuff I can’t get at ALDI.’

‘It takes a long time, but I’d rather spend an extra 30 minutes switching shops than paying an extra $50.’
