Bali-bound Aussies slam Jetstar over flight changes: ‘I’ve lost total trust’

It’s never a good time for travellers to have a sudden change in flight schedules, especially when you can no longer make any adjustments.

That’s exactly why a number of Jetstar customers have taken to social media to express their fury over a multitude of flight changes the airline has made to their Bali route.

One woman said she had to find out from a friend that her flight was changed and received ‘zero communication’ from Jetstar.

‘I've lost total trust in Jetstar and will never willingly fly with them again; if they put flights on their schedule, they should honour it,’ she said in frustration.

‘If my friend hadn’t seen our flight had been changed, I would’ve turned up to Brisbane Airport for my flight, only to be told it had been moved to the following day.’

The customer also noted that due to the changes, the airline bumped her off business class and added an eight-hour layover in Sydney - even though she had originally booked a direct flight from Brisbane to Denpasar.

‘They seem to forget the massive impact it can have on people’s holiday plans … changing a flight by a day can cost people money on lost accommodation and literally put their plans in ruins.’

Another shared: ‘Went to the airport today to head to Bali. Flight was cancelled while waiting to check-in. It's not the ground staff's fault, but they could at least show some genuine remorse for the 250 people who wheeled their luggage back to the taxi rank. Let's try again tomorrow shall we?’

‘Rubbish service!’, one livid parent wrote, ‘Our flight got cancelled and rather than book us the next day we got booked 5 days later!’

‘Stranded in Bali with out-of-pocket expenses for new accommodation but they tell you (they will) reimburse you with $150 for hotel and $30 for food. I have 4 kids and one of them is autistic, but what does Jetstar care, it’s not their problem.’

Jetstar for its part admits to making changes in its Bali route because of new aircraft being added to its fleet.

A spokesperson said: ‘With the arrival of our brand new, next-generation A321LR (NEO) aircraft earlier this year, we have made some adjustments to our international schedule, with some of our Boeing 787 Dreamliner services to Denpasar now being operated by the new NEO.’

The airline first announced the development in May of this year, with a total of 18 more NEO aeroplanes now flying for Jetstar.

The spokesperson also confirmed that some customers had to be taken off flights since the new aircrafts introduced had smaller carrying capacities.

‘A small number of passengers have been rebooked on an alternative service, with the majority travelling within 24 hours of their original flight,’ they said.

‘We thank customers for their flexibility as we introduce new aircraft onto our Bali services.’

Heaven forbid you find yourself in the same situation as these poor passengers, what do you do?

Key Takeaways

  • Jetstar customers are angry about the airline's flight schedule changes, which have caused many to have to change their travel plans.
  • The changes are due to the addition of a new aircraft to Jetstar's fleet.
  • However, some customers say that the changes have caused them significant inconvenience and expense, and that they will not fly with Jetstar again.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission stresses you have your rights in such a scenario to refunds or replacement flights, which depends on factors like the reason for delay or cancellation, and whether or not your airline was able to place you on a different flight within a reasonable time.

They also advise customers to check airlines for their compensation policies which come into effect when flights are cancelled or delayed.

Er, this might be an awkward placement, but if you’re still up for Jetstar (livid rants aside) you might want to check out their limited-time sale that can get you a free flight!

You can also take a proactive approach by having a look at this simple hack that could help you avoid those nasty flight cancellations on your next trip.

Have you had a similar experience with Jetstar or other carriers? How did it go?

My sister recently had a major problem getting from Melbourne to Southport. Flight was cancelled from an afternoon flight thrn to depart at 6pm or there about, then cancelled again with her ending up in funded accommodation for the might. She finally got a flight to Southport following afternoon. Flights weren't full so they wouldn't operate them. Disgusting in the treatment of their passengers. My sister has said she will never fly Jetstar again.

Was Jetstar the airline recently in the news for wanting to charge a disabled lady $30 for a wheelchair to carry her onto the plane? Nothing had been organised for her & she was shown in the plane dragging herself along the floor with what appeared to be a hostess walking along in front of her.
