Avoid $110,000 mistake this Easter—what every camper must know!

As the long weekend draws near, many are preparing for a much-needed getaway—some opting for a nature-filled escape.

It’s a popular time to unwind, recharge, and enjoy the outdoors. But before finalising any plans, there’s a key update to keep in mind, particularly for those eyeing a certain coastal region.

Changes recently introduced could affect where and how you set up camp.

The Central Coast Council has warned all campers sternly: adhere to the rules or face hefty fines.

In a recent announcement, the council made it clear that illegal camping will not be tolerated, and they are prepared to enforce this with significant penalties.

Those caught setting up camp in non-designated areas could be slapped with on-the-spot fines ranging from $110 to $2,200.

But it doesn't stop there—repeat offenders risk a staggering $110,000 fine.

Why such severe penalties, you might ask? Well, the council's crackdown is not without reason.

Illegal camping can harm the environment, including damage to local flora and fauna, increased litter, and potential safety risks in public spaces.

The council has updated overnight parking restrictions to combat these issues, enforcing a no camping rule in key locations between 10 pm and 5 am.

To ensure you're not caught, the council's message is clear: 'If you’re visiting the Central Coast, plan ahead and book an approved campsite.'

This advice is not only wise for avoiding fines but also for ensuring you have a secure and legal spot to enjoy your holiday.

The Central Coast isn't the only region tightening camping regulations.

Across Australia, councils are taking measures to curb the practice of illegal camping.

Some areas have introduced four-hour parking limits to prevent campers from overstaying their welcome.

In contrast, others have gone to such lengths as turning off hot water at public showers to deter campers from using the facilities.

In response to the increase in illegal camping, some positive steps have been taken to accommodate travellers' needs.

For instance, a new campground worth $200,000 has been announced in Exmouth, Western Australia, providing an alternative for those seeking a stay.

It's important to note that the council's approach to illegal camping is not intended to target the homeless.

In such cases, rangers are instructed to direct individuals toward specialist homelessness services, ensuring they receive the support they need.

As we prepare for our Easter excursions, remember to do so responsibly. Booking a legitimate campsite not only supports local businesses and communities but also helps preserve the natural beauty of our camping spots for future generations to enjoy.

Most progressive councils are embracing designated FREE Camping sites close to the towns, and promote themselves as RV Friendly Towns.
It would be good to see Central Coast Council introduce something like this in the Wyong area for instance and so many other opportunities to boost local tourism.
