Authorities recall fridges over fire hazard—are you at risk?

As we age, the importance of safety and reliability in our homes becomes ever more paramount.

We've come to rely on the convenience of modern appliances, but what happens when the tools designed to make our lives easier pose a risk to our well-being?

This is a question many Australians are asking after a recent and alarming product recall.

BeefEater, a well-known brand among outdoor cooking enthusiasts, has issued a recall for two models of its refrigerators—the double-door BS28200 and the single-door BS28130—after reports of multiple fires linked to these appliances.

The cause of these incidents has been traced back to a fault in the refrigerators' electrical control board.

‘The refrigerator may have a fault which can cause it to catch on fire,’ the recall notice said.

‘There have been multiple fires in these refrigerators causing property damage and injury.’

The affected models were sold between July 2017 and November 2021, and they carry serial numbers ranging from 72900000 to 95299999 and 00100000 to 04599999.

For those who may not be familiar with where to find this information, the serial plate is located at the bottom of the inside right-hand wall of the fridge.

If you or someone you know owns one of these refrigerators, it's crucial to act immediately.

BeefEater and Electrolux, the parent company, urge customers to contact them for a full refund. They've set up a toll-free number, 1800 001 218, which is available from 8 AM to 7 PM AEST Monday to Friday.

Alternatively, customers can email [email protected] or visit the BeefEater BBQ support page for more information on the recall.

This comes after a popular salami brand and a widely used vehicle were recalled due to potential health and safety risks.

The salami brand, Primo Foods, was urgently recalled for its Primo 25 per cent Salt Reduced Mild Salami due to the presence of undeclared allergen, which could affect those with allergies or intolerance.

On the other hand, Ford Australia recalled 1,117 vehicles from the 2023-2024 Ford Transit Custom range due to a software glitch in the Power Steering Control Module.
