Authorities issue urgent recall on popular treat due to undeclared allergen

Ice cream is a well-loved treat, with flavours ranging from classic vanilla to adventurous combinations like almond brittle.

However, even the most delightful products can face safety issues.

The Bellarine Rocky Road Company has issued an urgent recall on one of its popular treats, the Almond Brittle and Coffee Bean Rocky Road, due to a serious labelling oversight.

The recall, which affects the 200g packages with an expiry date of 5 December 2024, has been announced after it was discovered that the product's packaging failed to declare the presence of pistachios, posing a significant risk to those with nut allergies.

The affected rocky road has been available at various independent retailers across several states, including Queensland (QLD), Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Tasmania (TAS), New South Wales (NSW), and Victoria (VIC).

If you recently purchased this product, it's crucial to check your pantry and ensure you're not at risk.

Food Standards Australia, the governing body responsible for food safety and regulation, has issued the recall to protect consumers.

If you or someone you know has a nut allergy, consuming products with undeclared nuts like pistachios can lead to severe allergic reactions.

Customers who have bought the 200g Bellarine Rocky Road Company Rocky Road Almond Brittle and Coffee Bean with the specified expiry date are entitled to a full refund.

You can return the product to the place of purchase to claim your refund. Consumers who are concerned about their health are recommended to seek medical advice.

This comes after a recall was issued on Stonemill Sesame Seeds sold at ALDI due to salmonella contamination.

The recall affected stores in Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia.
