Authorities issue urgent recall for popular salami and vehicle models over health and safety risks

Attention shoppers and drivers: two major product recalls have recently been issued, highlighting the importance of consumer safety.

A popular salami brand and a widely-used vehicle model have been found to pose potential health and safety risks.

These recalls underscore the necessity for consumers to stay informed and take prompt action when it comes to product safety. Find out which products are affected and what steps you need to take to ensure your safety and well-being.

Primo Foods, a popular brand found in many Australian households, issued an urgent recall for its Primo 25 per cent Salt Reduced Mild Salami 80g ($3.95).

The reason for the recall is the presence of an undeclared allergen—milk—which can pose a serious health risk for individuals with a milk allergy or intolerance.

‘Consumers who have a milk allergy or intolerance should not consume this product,’ the recall from New South Wales Government Food Authority stated.

‘Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.’

‘Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund,’ it continued.

The salami slices in question have been distributed widely, available at major supermarkets such as Coles, Woolworths, and various independent retailers, including IGA, across the nation.

The specific batches of Primo Mild Salami to look out for were sold in Coles stores in NSW, VIC, SA, WA, and TAS, and in Woolworths in NSW, QLD, VIC, SA, WA, and TAS.

They were also available at independent retailers including IGA in NSW, VIC, SA, and NT, and at Brave Logistics in SA.

To determine if you have purchased an affected product, check the best before date on the package, which should read 19/07/2024.

For those who may need more information or assistance regarding the recall, Primo Foods can be contacted directly at 1800 060 909, or you can visit the Primo website for further details.

While addressing food safety concerns is crucial, it's equally important to ensure the safety of our vehicles.

Just as undeclared allergens in food products can pose serious health risks, software faults in cars can lead to dangerous situations on the road.

Following the recent salami recall, attention is now turning to a significant recall involving the Ford Transit Custom.

Ford Australia issued a recall for 1,117 vehicles of its 2023-2024 Ford Transit Custom range due to a software glitch.

The recall notice, which had been officially lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, highlighted the gravity of the situation.

According to the notice, ‘Due to a software issue within the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) the Lane Change Warning Assist (LCWA) feature may not operate as intended.’

‘As a result, there is an increased chance of a collision with another vehicle. A loss of LCWA feature could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.’

Ford stated that owners of the affected Transit Custom models will be contacted in writing, urging them to bring their vehicles to their nearest authorised Ford dealership, where they will address the software issue and fix the fault free of charge, ensuring that the LCWA feature functions correctly.

Aha, a software glitch.......this modern digital world! I saw a vehicle recently with side cameras instead of good side-mirrors. Perhaps convenient. But sometimes simple old technology, added to awareness when driving, is better as it does not need microchips or bits of wire etc that can fail.
