If you own a Mercedes-Benz, you might want to think twice before getting behind the wheel.
Authorities have issued a recall for 17,687 cars including the ML, GL and R Class 2005 - 2013 due to a defect that could impact the car's braking performance.
It was said that authorities found out that the corrosion of the car could cause the brake booster to leak, which may lead to braking issues and eventually accidents.
The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Communications said in a statement: “In cases of very severe corrosion, hard braking may damage the brake booster resulting in a reduction of braking performance.”
“A reduction in braking performance could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

Owners are advised to stop driving their cars "immediately" and are encouraged to contact a Mercedes-Benz service centre so they can schedule an inspection of their car "as soon as possible".
“Mercedes-Benz Authorised Service Centres will perform a visual inspection on your vehicle and if signs of advanced corrosion are present, will perform a guided diagnostic test,” the statement read.
“Replacement will be required if the brake booster does not pass this test. Mercedes-Benz will work with owners to arrange an alternate transport solution until the affected parts are replaced.”

Meanwhile, legal firm Bannister Law has announced that the group launched an investigation into the losses being incurred by impacted car owners.
Bannister Law Class Action Principal Charles Bannister said that the group is encouraging owners who are “facing the reality of having a vehicle that they are unable to drive until inspected” to reach out to them so they can “understand the losses that they are incurring as a result”.
Vehicle owners who are interested in taking part in this can register on the group's website.
Stay safe out there, folks!
