Australia's top multipurpose cleaners revealed!

Cleaning your home is a task that requires time, effort, and the right products.

But the effectiveness of the cleaning products you use makes all the difference in the outcome.

After all, who wants to spend their precious time scrubbing away with a cleaner that barely makes a dent in the grime?

In the quest to help find the best choices for your home, customer reviews of various multipurpose cleaners compiled by Canstar Blue were analysed, and the results are quite surprising.

Some well-known brands didn't make it to the top of the list, while others you might not expect have come out as clear winners.

The Best Multipurpose Cleaners in Australia

Canstar Blue surveyed over 2,000 Australians to gather their opinions on multipurpose cleaners. A total of 14 brands were compared, including:
  • Koh
  • Bosisto’s
  • ALDI Power Force
  • Gumption
  • Earth Choice
  • Jif
  • Dettol
  • Coles Ultra
  • Strike
  • Pine O Cleen
  • Ajax
  • Windex
  • White King
  • ALDI Green Action

ALDI Power Force, Gumption, Earth Choice, Jif, Dettol, Coles Ultra, Strike, and Pine O Cleen all received a respectable four out of five for overall satisfaction.

Bosisto’s came in second, with an overall satisfaction rating of four. It scored five out of five for effectiveness and scent, while value for money, packaging convenience, and ease of use all received a score of four.

As for the top choice—it’s the eco-friendly cleaning brand Koh which scored five out of five for customer satisfaction.

It also received top marks for packaging convenience and ease of use. Effectiveness, value for money, and scent were rated four out of five.

The remaining brands were rated three out of five.

According to Canstar Blue, customers appreciated Koh's multipurpose cleaner for its large packaging options (4L or 1.8L boxes) and its versatility as a cleaner.

It's also a great choice for those with allergies, as it's approved by the National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice.

Plus, it's said to be chemical-free, which is a significant advantage for many people.

The Importance of Choosing the Right Cleaner

Choosing the right multipurpose cleaner is about more than just getting your surfaces clean. It's also about ensuring the product is safe for you and your family.

Many cleaners contain harsh chemicals that can cause skin irritation, respiratory issues, and other health problems.

Eco-friendly cleaners like Koh are a great alternative. They're made with natural ingredients that are safe for humans and the environment, and they're often just as effective as traditional cleaners.

In addition to health and environmental considerations, it's also important to consider the cost and convenience of the cleaner.

Larger packaging options can offer better value for money, while easy-to-use packaging can make the cleaning process much smoother.
Key Takeaways
  • Various multipurpose cleaners were analysed through a survey conducted by Canstar Blue, which involved over 2,000 Australians.
  • Brands, including Koh, Bosisto's, ALDI Power Force and Gumption, were rated on aspects such as satisfaction, effectiveness, and value for money.
  • Eco-friendly brand Koh emerged at the top of the list with five out of five for customer satisfaction, packaging convenience, and ease of use.
  • Koh's appeal was attributed to its packaging size, versatility as a cleaner, chemical-free product and approval by the National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice.

Show me a chemical free cleaner and I will role out my extensive collection of Easter Bunnies, Tooth Fairies, Jesus Christs and Santa Clauses. I might even throw in the odd honest politician for good measure.
I’ll often use carb soda and/or vinegar for cleaning, especially in the kitchen. But for a purchased cleaning product, I buy Bosisto’s. Have tried lots of others but always go back to my old reliables. Just a matter of personal choice. 😀

I am glad I am using the right cleaners, apart from bicarb soda and vinegar which are the go to.

👌😂😂

I like to re-use the spray bottles after purchase and fill them with healthier no-chemical cleaning stuff, but when some won't allow that because you can't remove the spray top, very annoying ! Pine-o-clean is one such bottle.

Bicarb Soda = Sodium Bicarbonate (Na2HCO3) - a chemical with a chemical formula.

Vinegar = Diluted Acetic Acid (CH2COOH) also known by the IUPAC name, ethanoic acid - a chemical with a chemical formula.

I imagine that chemical free cleaners are just that - imaginary being the operative word. In other words, they don't exist since they are not chemicals, but mere figments of one's imagination.

I will finish by saying that EVERYTHING you see (and some you don't such as atmospheric gases) is a chemical dictated by a structure and a formula.

Ok, point taken Professor. 😉 I get what you’re saying. Chemicals are everywhere. Some are worse than others, some natural, some man made; endocrine disruptors, carcinogens; the list goes on. 😶

I hadn’t even heard of it so I looked it up. I prefer to do my house cleaning the old fashioned way; my daily exercise!
