Aussie households shocked by this 'game-changing' grass cleaning trick

Fake grass is an excellent way to make the outside of our homes look neat and tidy without having to constantly maintain it – but even artificial grass does need to be cleaned from time to time.

While it isn’t always easy to keep clean, an Aussie mum recently discovered a hack that had everyone ‘losing their minds’.

The busy mum posted her ‘hack’ on Facebook and told her followers that she had been trying to figure out how to freshen up her artificial grass, which had grown ‘notoriously’ dirty.

She said she was struggling to keep her yard looking clean with regular garden tools until she used a pressure washer to transform her dirty grass and bring it back to its original state.

‘You have not lived until you have pressure-washed your fake grass!’ The mum said. She revealed that the pressure washing method was the only way that actually cleaned her grass, but admitted that it had her ‘entire body covered in sand and mud’ by the time she was done cleaning.

In the photo she attached to her post, she showed her artificial grass looking dark green and dirty in the areas that she hadn’t cleaned yet. The photo also showed that the areas where she pressure washed the grass looked ‘brand new’.

Her followers praised her ‘cleaning hack’, with many saying how ‘satisfying’ it was to see the grass turn light green again.

‘This is my goal’, said one woman.

Many social media users who saw the mum’s post also admitted that they had been struggling to deodorise their grass, especially those who had dogs.

Some people said they use vinegar and water solution to get rid of the odour, and also because it’s safe for animals.

‘I put a two-litre cleaning vinegar into a watering can and cover the grass. Then I leave it for 10 to 20 minutes and hose it off. It freshens it right up,’ someone explained.
She suggested to others to apply the solution ‘in full shade’ to make sure it doesn’t dry out before it can even sanitise the area.

While many shared their own hacks, some of the people commenting under the woman’s post warned not to use a power washer if the fake grass has a sand base.

Someone wrote: ‘Fake grass usually has a sand base. If you pressure wash it you could be destroying it from underneath.’

If you don’t have a pressure washer, you can follow the tips below to clean artificial grass:
  • Remove dust, dirt, and leaves using a flexible lawn rake or a broom.
  • Prepare a simple solution to clean the grass. An equal mix of vinegar and water can get rid of smells and spills.
  • Hose down the area and rinse well.
  • Air dry before using a rake or broom again to groom the blades back into an upright position.

Key Takeaways

  • Many were impressed with an Australian mum's hack to freshen up artificial grass with a pressure washer.
  • The mum admitted that she was covered in sand and mud after using the pressure washer.
  • Others warned, however, not to pressure wash if your grass has a sand-based foundation as this could damage it.
