Aussie families are saving BIG on their meat bills by using online butchers – will you be giving them a try?

In the business world, retailers, distributors, salespeople, brokers, and even drop shippers are just a few examples of the people we refer to as the "middleman".

The role of the middleman, which involves connecting a consumer with a producer of goods, has been an important one for many years now. But, generally, as long as the product they are selling is in high demand, the middlemen can (and will) mark up the prices as high as they want just to make a profit.

This is especially relevant in the present day and age, considering that the price of beef has risen almost 9% in just one year, while the price of lamb has increased by almost 7%.

The cost of living and food prices in supermarkets are skyrocketing, leaving an increasing number of Aussies struggling to make ends meet with their weekly grocery budget.

Because of this, more and more consumers are opting to "skip the middleman" by purchasing their meat from online butchers, who buy directly from local farmers.

In Victoria, one of the businesses doing well among shoppers is called the Meat Box, and it operates by selling prime cuts of meat at wholesale prices and bringing them right to the customer's door.

The company makes deliveries all over Victoria and sources its meat from local Australian abattoirs. They cut and package the meat themselves and pass the savings on to customers, who can save up to 20% on their meat purchases.

"You can shop around and you can also order online. Not only are you saving a lot of time, but you're also saving a lot of money," said Natasha Hooker from the Meat Box.

If you shop at the Meat Box, you can purchase premium mince for only $9.99 per kg, which is up to half the price of what you can find in other major retailers. A family meat box is also available for purchase for $150, and it includes free delivery to any postcode in Victoria.

Ms Hooker even mentioned that some of their customers even purchase a meat box and then divide the cost and the cuts with their neighbours. How good is that!

Since June last year, the price of beef has increased by 8.9%, lamb by 6.7%, poultry by 4.2%, and pork by 3.6%. Farmers have also been severely affected by the recent spate of bushfires, drought, and floods, and many of them have been driven to the brink of financial ruin as a result.

Bianca Tarrant is one of the producers who has been impacted. But now, she has bounced back and is the owner of a business called Our Cow, which offers organic and free-range meat that is said to be sold directly from the pasture to the consumer.

"We support hundreds of farmers and deliver to thousands of homes all across the country," said Ms Tarrant, adding that there was a huge demand for meat delivery services due to the convenience and quality of the products offered.

But still, we advise and highly encourage our meat-loving members to shop around for the best prices and quality, both in-store and online.

Will you be giving the Meat Box or a similar company a try? Best of luck with your meat shopping, folks!

I don't eat enough meat to make buying online viable for me, nor do I have anyone to share with.:(.
Ricci you could talk to your neighbours and you may find some would be interested in bulk buying and sharing. We did that in Tassie and worked well.
