Attention, chook-lovers! Red Rooster’s menu has a new sweet ‘n' spicy addition
- Replies 2
If you enjoy your chook with a symphony of heat and sweetness, we have some fantastic news for you!
Red Rooster, the iconic Australian chicken franchise, has recently announced that they will be adding a new flavour to their fan-favourite chicken lineup.
It's called the Hot Honey Fried Chicken and is offered in Red Rooster branches starting February 1.
It's got everything you can expect from a Red Rooster meal — chicken coated in a mix of seasonings, served crunchy and fresh — but this one comes with an extra zing from the tangy, sweet honey sauce.
It is available in single, 6, 12 and 18-piece packs, as a combo (with regular chips and a drink), a three-piece Satisfryer pack, and a larger Hot Honey Fried Chicken Pack with 8 pieces, a coleslaw, mashed potatoes, and gravy — plus a 1.25L drink for larger orders.
'Australia asked us for spice, crunch, and flavour and we sure listened', the restaurant announced while launching the new flavour.
But what do food reviewers say?
Look no further because YouTuber Greg’s Kitchen has offered his take on Red Rooster’s newest addition!
Sitting in his car in the stifling Aussie summer heat, Greg took the liberty of chowing down on the Hot Honey Fried Chicken for all our sakes.
‘Oh wow! That tastes pretty hot,’ he said, tasting the fried chook’s honey coating.
‘It’s got the sweet deliciousness of the honey, but straight away you’ve got some heat there.’
Taking his time with the chicken, Greg described the texture as ‘good and crunchy… with a little bit of chewy sogginess’.
If you’re sold on the honey bit though, you might find one of his observations interesting.
‘It’s funny, even though it’s honey — and it is sweet — it doesn’t have a real honey taste.’
‘It tastes more like molasses. But a sweet honey-tasting molasses.’
Despite that, Greg ended up rating the chicken a 10 out of 10.
‘The flavour is so nice, the heat’s perfect… exactly what I was expecting, except even better!’
Other reviewers posted similarly positive opinions of the Hot Honey Chicken.
‘The flavour of the chicken meat is lovely… (Red Rooster) have perfected it,’ another named Food Sack said.
‘The honey sauce is quite good… it’s sweet, but has that little kick of spiciness to it.’
‘It also has the saltiness of the chicken, so it’s all these flavours combined in a nice way… I think Red Rooster are onto something here.’
For others though the meal didn’t meet expectations.
A reviewer by the name of 2 Aussie gave the Hot Honey Chicken a modest 3 stars out of 5 on taste, saying that there wasn’t really anything remarkable about it.
‘Nothing to write home about, (I) probably won’t try it again,’ he said. ‘It’s average, not really my cup of tea.’
Well, it seems the jury is still out… but at the end of the day, you be the judge on whether or not Red Rooster’s Hot Honey Chicken is something worth your while.
In related news, did you know that the restaurant also released a ‘Street Food’ range of merchandise? You might want to give it a look here!
So, what are your thoughts about this Red Rooster menu item? If you’ve had the chance to try it already, how was it?
