With Easter just around the corner, many of us look forward to indulging in hot cross buns. There’s something wonderful about the smell of spice and sugar baked in an oven together, and the aroma that fills the air when hot cross buns come out of the oven is simply unforgettable.
For many of us, fluffy, fruity baked goods are essential to the traditional Easter feast.
Unfortunately, Woolworths shoppers have recently been hit with bad news after the supermarket chain announced an urgent recall of two popular hot cross bun varieties.
This recall comes amidst concerns that the some Woolworths 6pk Fruit Hot Cross Buns and Woolworths 9pk Fruit Hot Cross Mini Bun batches may have been contaminated with metal shavings.
Authorities warned that consuming metal-laced food can be dangerous and lead to various health issues.
A Food Standards Australia (FSANZ) statement read: ‘The recall is due to the presence of foreign matter (metal). Food products containing metal may cause illness/injury if consumed.’
The affected products have a best-before date of April 5, 2023, and were only sold at Woolworths Dural in NSW. No other stores have reported this issue.
Any customers who have purchased these products have been advised to take the following steps:
Firstly, do not consume the hot cross buns. Immediately return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
If you have already consumed them and begin to feel unwell or experience discomfort or pain, seek medical advice immediately.
Finally, for more information on this recall, please call Woolworths at 1800 103 515.

It comes after the group released a list of the 12 most recalled Australian grocery items, which includes bread and bakery products, among other things. You can read the full report here.
Members, we advise sharing this recall notice with your family and friends to protect everyone's well-being during this Easter season.
Stay safe and have a happy Easter, everyone!
