Are you at risk? Urgent recall issued for LG energy system storage batteries and Renault cars

If you’ve got a solar panel system at home, it’s time to head outside and take a closer look at it, as LG Energy Solution Australia recently issued an urgent recall due to safety concerns.

Not only that, but Renault has recalled multiple units of their Koleos models due to a defect.

If you’re a homeowner with a solar panel, you’re encouraged to check its storage batteries. LG revealed that some of its energy storage systems (ESS) have overheated and eventually caught fire—causing damage to properties where they were installed.

Some of the systems with affected batteries are LG branded RESU systems, SolaX Power Station, SolaX X-Cabinet, Opal Storage, Redback SH5000, Red Earth Sunrise, Red Earth Drop Bear, Eguana Evolve, and VARTA Pulse Neo.

The currently known systems that might contain affected batteries include those manufactured between January 21, 2016 and March 28, 2017, and September 14, 2018 to June 30, 2019.

To check if you’re ESS is part of this recall, please visit the LG website’s Battery Recall Serial Number Check.

If you need assistance in identifying affected ESS, please contact LG by phone at 1300 677 273 or by email at [email protected].

Product Safety Australia stated last Friday, ‘Consumers should be aware that LGESAU is rolling out diagnostic software remotely where possible, and otherwise via technician site visit. The software is designed to identify and shut down batteries at risk of overheating.’

‘To minimise the risk of fire, please keep the battery switched off until the diagnostic software is installed. If you are unsure how to switch your battery off, please contact LGESAU for assistance,’ they added.

Major retailers such as AGL Energy and Energy Australia have sold the affected batteries.

To learn more about this recall, you may visit this website. You may also contact LG if you have technical questions about the batteries at 1300 178 064.

Meanwhile, car owners of Renault Koleos need to be aware of the recent recall issued by the company.

According to the recall notice: ‘Due to a manufacturing defect, the bonnet outer panel and inner frame may not have been bonded correctly.’

‘As a result, the bonnet outer panel could detach due to vibrations whilst driving and/or at high speed,’ it explained

Unfortunately, this manufacturing defect can increase the risk of an accident, which may cause serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.

This recall by Renault affects 1872 vehicles released in 2022-2023. To see if your car is affected, you may check the full VIN (Vehicle identification number) list here.

Owners were encouraged to get in touch with their preferred Authorised Renault Dealer to schedule an inspection and the necessary repair of the vehicles. These will be free of charge.

You may visit this website to locate a dealer near you.
