Few items can be called a worthy purchase, but when it turns out the product is faulty and a potential hazard, you need to return it immediately—better to be safe than sorry!
If you own this lawn mower at home or have grandchildren playing with a specific type of toy train, it’s time to take a closer look at them.
Two products have been issued a recall from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission due to safety risks.
Product Safety Australia raised the alarm for the Victa Classic Anniversary Edition Mulch or Catch Petrol Cut Lawn Mower due to a fault with the grass catcher.f It warned that debris could break through its plastic case while the mower is being used, causing serious injury—such as lacerations—to the user or bystanders.
The mower—supplied by Briggs & Stratton Australia Pty Ltd—has serial numbers between 421966679 and 421973958, and was available for purchase between 1 November 2022 and 28 February 2023 at all Bunnings stores.
If you bought the mower during this period, check its serial numbers. If the item’s serial number falls within the defect, stop using it immediately and return the grass catcher to your local Victa dealer for a replacement part.
To know more about the product recall, contact Victa at 1800 356 632 or [email protected].
Meanwhile, parents and grandparents alike should also beware of the toys your children or grandchildren use.
Mattel's Fisher-Price renowned Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Troublesome Truck & Crates and Wooden Railway Troublesome Truck & Paint have also been urgently recalled as the toy’s detachable part could present a range of hazards.
The carts are designed for children aged two years and older, with silver paint tins with yellow paint splatter and wooden crates. The toy’s tiny detachable part has a high-powered magnet, which can cause serious internal injuries, choking, or death for children.
The designs breached the mandatory standards for children up to and including 36 months of age.
The ACCC said, 'The small plastic piece containing a high-powered magnet that connects one train to another can detach from the trains or become loose.’
‘There is a risk of young children choking on the connector that contains a magnet if it detaches,’ it added.
‘There is also a risk of serious internal injuries or death if a child swallows more than one small, high-powered magnet, as they can stick together across the walls of the child’s intestine or other digestive tissue.'
The toys were sold between October 6, 2022, and September 6, 2023, locally and internationally at several retailers, including Mr Toys Toyworld, Kidstuff, and Toyworld, with product codes HBJ89 or HBJ90.
If you have either of these toys or know someone who does, the ACCC has urged people to stop using them immediately.
A full refund will be available to customers by following Mattel’s instructions or returning the item to the retailer where it was purchased.
