An SDC Debate: The Most Underrated and Overrated Products

Well hello Members!

Thank you so much for joining in on this debate. We've been having this one all week at the SDC HQ, but let me give you some background:

Jon came in the other day and asked us what we thought the most underrated and overrated products of all time were (probably a bit dramatic, but you get the point) and here's what everyone had to say:

April:
Overrated: A stick vacuum (and can I just add, that I too think these are the most overrated and useless products of all time. I'll forever be sticking to my cord vacuum that actually sucks up all the dirt off your floor!)
Underrated: Wheat bags. They deserve so much more respect.

Maddie:
Overrated: A stick vacuum (as soon as April said it, I jumped on board immediately)
Underrated: I think a good drink bottle is so underrated? I'm in love with my metal drink bottle that I use every day, multiple times a day.

Vella:
Overrated: Evian Water (double the price, tastes the same?)
Underrated: Bed sheet clips! Most of the office didn't know these existed! But you can buy them here.

Jonathan:
Overrated: Anything involving truffles.
Underrated: The chocolate from ALDI.

Sethia:
Overrated: Silk anything (?) pillows, sheets, pyjamas. It’s a rip off lol
Underrated: Your own grocery bag trolley! I personally don’t see a lot of people using it, but it has helped make dragging groceries to the car a lot easier haha. (because you just roll them around haha)

James:
Overrated: AirPods or similar wireless earphones (lose one and they're pretty much useless), also those overpriced Dyson bladeless fans!
Underrated: Power banks that double as portable chargers, they're lifesavers

Sean:
Overrated: Vitamin gummies (aren't they just lollies, really?)
Underrated: Water-proof bags. I just carry one around with me at all times because idk when it's gonna rain haha (this is awfully relatable for a lot of us at the moment)

Now Members, we want to hear from you. In your opinion, what are the most underrated and overrated products ever?

Underrated: White vinegar, can be used for most cleaning jobs, I use it instead of conditioner in my washing machine, it leaves your clothes soft and keeps your machine clean, I have had my machine for over 30 years and always used white vinegar in it.

Marmalade.
Apart from vitamins, it is also rich in dietary fibre, calcium and iron. Marmalade may reduce cholesterol levels and support good heart health. Marmalade has powerful antioxidants and relieves constipation.

I don't know why you are not fans of a stick vacuum. I have an Electrolux Ergonomic.
It is a two in one, so I can just use the dust buster if needed. I do admit that I need to empty the dust compartment halfway through vacuuming the house but I can do it all on one charge.
I can wash the filters and the dust compartment, which is so easy to do.
I find it so much better than dragging around my corded Dyson.

Underrated. :Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner. Myself and all my children have them. You can vacuum house/ car etc. adjust the power.
As I get older much easier on the body and not limited by the length of the cord. Lots of great attachments. Go anywhere!!

Overrated: ??

Overrated: Vegan food - I cannot understand that products such as fish, meat, and eggs are unhealthy for me. I lived on this as a 1945 baby and thrived and still growing strong
Underrated: - Natural cotton and wool products for clothing etc. These are best for your skin and last much longer than polyester hybrid materials.
I am not against any vegetarian or vegan followers. This is their choice, but I like what I was brought up on. I also love most vegetables.

Despite tasting yukky, like medicine!

If Choice hasn't beaten you to it, why not a comparison performance test between the cordless stick and corded more powerful vacuum cleaners. (Maybe access Choice's research>) just thinkin' lol

I have recently started using white vinegar as a conditioner for my clothes in the final rinse, while I am happy with myself about finally using something eco friendly which is also better for the washing machine, I cannot agree that the vinegar makes my clothes softer than the traditional fabric softeners, I was very disapointed in the result, although I am thinking that it maybe has something to do with the quality of the water, our water is very hard, hopefully that will improve after we install a whole house water filtration system, which we have been advised to do and then I can really compare the difference.

I always use white vinegar when washing new bed linen and towels. Towels especially as the vinegar removes all the the dressing & makes the towels absorbent.

I can never understand Aussie's obsession with Timtam biscuits - I think they're the most over rated.
Just as well my hubby has passed away, mate! He'd have argued they are an essential food group 🤣

Agree with Jonathan, truffles are way overrated as is smoked salmon.
I really value and even under rate my high quality gin and red wine glasses. They are delightful to drink from.

Over-rated: rice cookers. I cook perfect rice in a saucepan or in the microwave without needing a specialist appliance.

When I got my new Miele front loader, the installer said not to use vinegar in it, apparently it ruins the seals.

Overrated: Cordless vacuum cleaners. I've never had much luck with rechargeable appliances, but recently decided to risk it and bought a Dyson V8 Animal to make daily cleaning easier (we have two long-haired indoor cats). It picks up the fluff well, but it only goes for 13 minutes before the battery is flat, and it takes hours to recharge! I much prefer my corded Miele. And I am always confused when people complain about having to unplug and move the electric cord; have they never heard of an extension cord?
Underrated: I agree with April, I would be lost without my wheat bag! Helps so much with my back and hip pain and keeps my cold feet warm in bed!
