Allegations shake literary world as famous author accused of crime against family nanny

This article discusses topics related to sexual assault, which may be distressing or triggering for some readers. Reader discretion is advised. If you or someone you know is affected by these issues, please seek support from a trusted individual or contact a professional resource in your area.

The literary world is reeling from a bombshell report that has surfaced, casting a shadow over the reputation of one of its most celebrated authors.

Known for his captivating storytelling in works such as The Sandman, American Gods, and the beloved children's book Coraline, he faces grave allegations that have disappointed fans and readers.

As the news spreads, it has sparked widespread discussions about accountability and the impact of these revelations on the literary community. The unfolding situation raises serious questions about the legacy of an author whose works have profoundly influenced modern literature.

According to a detailed account in Vulture, Neil Gaiman has been accused of sexually assaulting his son's nanny, Scarlett Pavlovich, in the outdoor bathtub of his New Zealand residence.

The report, which has sent shockwaves through the literary community, includes additional claims from other women who allege that Gaiman subjected them to sexual abuse.

Pavlovich's harrowing narrative describes a night on 4 February 2022 when, after dinner, Gaiman allegedly coerced her into taking a bath despite her reluctance.

She claimed that Gaiman then joined her in the tub without her consent, initiating unwanted sexual contact that escalated to assault.

The distressing details of the encounter include Gaiman's alleged demands for Pavlovich to call him 'master' and to comply with his actions despite her repeated refusals.

The incident's aftermath saw Pavlovich grappling with the trauma, searching for support and information on the 'Me Too' movement about Gaiman.

In a twist that adds complexity to the situation, Pavlovich was later offered the opportunity to continue her nannying role as the family planned to move to England and Scotland.

Text messages cited by Vulture suggested a conflicting dynamic between Pavlovich and Gaiman following the alleged assault.

The Vulture report also brings to light another disturbing incident involving Pavlovich and Gaiman, where he is accused of assaulting her in a kitchen, using physical force and household items in the act.

These allegations painted a picture of a pattern of abuse that Pavlovich claims blurred together over time.

Gaiman's representatives have categorically denied the allegations, labelling them as 'false and deplorable.'

However, the claims have prompted a broader conversation about power dynamics and accountability within the literary world.

The Vulture article is not the sole source of accusations against Gaiman.

The Tortoise podcast, hosted by Rachel Johnson, initially broke the news of sexual abuse allegations, with multiple women coming forward with their own experiences of Gaiman's alleged misconduct.

These range from claims of rough, non-consensual sex to an aggressive, unwanted advance dating back to 1986.

The gravity of these allegations cannot be overstated, and they have led Pavlovich to file a police report accusing Gaiman of sexual assault in January 2023.

These claims' legal and personal ramifications are yet to be fully realised, but the impact on Gaiman's legacy and the trust of his readership is already being felt.

As we process this shocking news, it's important to remember the courage it takes for survivors of sexual assault to come forward, especially against public figures.

The conversation around these allegations is a reminder of the ongoing struggle to ensure that all voices are heard and that justice is served, regardless of the status of the accused.

Gaiman's fantasy novels try to fill the huge void left since the death in 2015 of Terry Pratchett, the highly acclaimed author of the wonderful satirical DiscWorld novels. Gaiman is a very poor substitute. He claims a long friendship with Sir Terry, who was a renowned humanitarian and a master of gentle wit. All Pratchett's books are on my shelves but none by Gaiman. I find his books petulant and tedious, so am not surprised to hear this accusation.

It is so sad (and disgusting) to hear some of these violent acts against women from days gone by when a woman would more than likely have not been believed if they were reported as sexual violence.

What gives a depraved man the right to force his appendage into a woman’s body, more than likely causing her immense pain and shame as a result? When the act is performed by two consenting people it is more than likely a pleasurable experience, but forced is not.

If it was possible (& legal) to punish the perpetrator by inflicting similar pain on a depraved individual, like so many of the cases we are hearing of nowadays, I would be ever so happy to see it cut right off!

I want to know why she stayed so long. It sounds like it had been going on for awhile.
Where is his wife , did she know what was happening . I think there is alot more to this story.

If this is true then The nanny was stupid for staying after the first assault.
And if this is true then he needs to go straight to jail and pass all privileges

What Did Amanda Palmer Know?

Palmer's role in the allegations has come under intense scrutiny. According to Vulture, Pavlovich informed Palmer about Gaiman's behaviour during a candid conversation in March 2022. Palmer reportedly expressed shock but admitted to Pavlovich that other women had previously confided similar experiences.
In total, Palmer allegedly referenced "14 women" who had approached her about Gaiman's actions, including one who accused him of inappropriate behaviour towards another nanny during his first marriage.

Despite this knowledge, Palmer's response to Pavlovich's distress has drawn criticism. When Pavlovich filed a police report in New Zealand, an officer told her that Palmer's cooperation would be crucial for the investigation. Palmer, however, declined to speak with authorities. Her reluctance has led some to question her complicity or willingness to protect Gaiman despite the allegations.

The Legacy of the Allegations

As Pavlovich and other accusers continue to seek justice, questions linger about the extent of Palmer's awareness and her responsibility as both a public figure and a parent. While she has not publicly addressed the specifics of the allegations, her silence on the matter has only deepened the controversy.

Here we go again! Historical allegations of sexual assault dating back to 1986?

Just delve further into the workings of the Vulture Report and especially the Tortoise podcast, which has direct connections to Rachel Johnson, the sister of former UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

The reluctance of police involvement tells a story, as does the "witnesses" who have "damning" evidence, which is probably fabricated. That is the main reason why they haven't come forward.

The Tortoise organisation gives every indication of being a pro feminist entity, including a supporter known as Paul Caruana Galizia. The Tortoise podcast reeks of sensationalism and devoid of substance.
