We previously reported on shoppers raving over a new ALDI Special Buys item, taking to social media to share about how the gadget shortened the defrosting time of frozen mince.
As more and more ALDI fans join the hype, the rave reviews for the 'magic' item have escalated.
Customers are claiming that the $16.99 Crofton defrosting chopping board could defrost large chunks of meat in a matter of hours as opposed to waiting for it to defrost for almost a complete day.
One shopper even went as far as to use the chopping board to defrost a whole turkey — and the surprising part is it worked!
Sharing her discovery to the Aldi Mums Facebook group, one woman claimed that she managed to defrost an entire turkey while it was still in the fridge using the popular gadget.
'I had a bit of a panic after the fresh whole turkey I ordered for Saturday’s Xmas in July was delivered frozen with the advice of allowing a minimum of two full days to defrost fully before cooking,' the mum wrote.
'Cue minor panic and the defrost board – result – a whole 6kg turkey defrosted in one afternoon, approx. five hours – turned each hour – this is a game changer!'

Several users also claimed that aside from frozen meats, the versatile board can thaw other frozen food in a matter of minutes.
One person said: 'I got one the other day and used it last night to defrost a few slices of bread. It took at least five mins.'
'Got one for myself and mum today after a post on here a few days ago … the FOMO (fear of missing out) was real!' another exclaimed.
A third chimed in: 'It’s magic.'
However, some are still dubious about the board's capacity to defrost meat without batteries or an external power source.
One comment read: 'Can you tell me how that’s better (or how it works) than just putting it on an ordinary rack or on the bench? Genuine question.'
'Is there something in the board that makes defrosting meat somewhat quicker than leaving it on the kitchen sink to defrost for a few hours?' another asked.
Well, for those who are curious about how the product works, the secret to its effectiveness is that it uses aluminium — an excellent conductor of ambient heat, which allows the gadget to safely defrost meats without using any energy.
While the recent ALDI Special Buys catalogue popularised the gadget among shoppers, defrosting chopping boards have been around for a while.
And for those who missed out on the Special Buys product — which isn’t a surprise since the item was flying off the shelves — a variety of other brands are also available online.

Meanwhile, some group members suggested the following methods for anyone looking for more cost-effective alternatives to defrosting meat.
One woman recommended: 'I use a metal baking tray, without non-stick coating, and it defrosts meat quickly.'
'I use a high-standing cake rack. Perfect!' another said.
A third shared: 'I’ve always defrosted my meat on the edge of my stainless steel sink. Works a treat every time! I learned it from my grandma!'
Who knew defrosting meat can be made easy? We must admit that we were stunned by these tips.
