Aldi releases IN-DEMAND garden item for $9.99 after a similar product
took supermarket shelves by storm!

If you started delving into gardening as a hobby ever since the start of the pandemic, then we’re sure you’re going to be captivated by these little fellas!

Well-known supermarket chain Aldi has launched a quirky set of meerkat garden statues after shoppers went crazy over a similar product at Woolworths. The adorable garden figures feature meerkats who are dressed up as doctors, nurses, firemen, and librarians.

The garden ornaments are a part of Aldi’s Special Buys, alongside a variety of other animals such as koalas, crocodiles, cows, sheep, and owls turned into cheeky garden gnomes.

The demand for gardening and DIY items rose to an all-time high thanks to the pandemic, as people were left with no choice but to isolate themselves in their homes. Australians developed a greater interest in plants than ever before, with the country spending a whopping $2.6 billion on over two billion plants.

Back in 2020, the coveted garden knick-knacks developed a cult following across Australia and became one of Woolworths’ best selling items. They were sold for only $8 a piece and shoppers were provided with a total of 35 characters to choose from including fairies, brides, grooms, and Olympians.

Woolworths’ CEO Brad Banducci disclosed that a massive sum of 60,000 meerkat figures were sold in less than a month! Apparently, they even doubled the stock in 2020 but still managed to sell as much as 2019’s stock within the first week as shoppers swiftly emptied the shelves of the garden ornaments in record numbers.

“Customers exceeded our expectations for demand with these meerkats last year, and this year they'll find a range of new and quirky designs and personalities as a way to get families out of the house and in the garden.” He said previously.
