Product recalls are never something to take lightly—especially when they involve items that pose a direct threat to health and safety.
A recent recall has sparked concern across multiple states, with warnings of potentially severe consequences if left unaddressed.
Authorities are now urging consumers to take immediate action after two separate products were flagged for dangerous defects.
ALDI issued an urgent recall for one of its outdoor products, warning that the defect could result in ‘serious injury or death’.
The Coolabah Area Gas Heater was sold for a limited time between 7 May 2025 and 9 May 2025 across ALDI stores in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.
According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), ‘Excess gas may ignite due to the ignition gas escaping from the cylinder compartment due to a lack of separation from the flame source.’
The risk of ignition could cause a fire, posing a potentially fatal hazard to users.
Anyone who purchased the Coolabah Area Gas Heater was told to stop using it immediately and return it to any ALDI store for a full refund.
The heater carried the model number SKYFSD-DSS6NW, which could be found on its metal plate rating label.
Consumers with questions were directed to contact Skywell via [email protected]](mailto:[email protected] or by calling 1800 940 467 between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday.
The ALDI recall helpline was also available on 13 25 34 from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm.
Shortly after this recall, a separate issue emerged involving a baby product sold at major retailers.
Weleda Australia Pty Ltd recalled one batch of its Weleda Baby Teething Oral Powder following the discovery of a glass fragment inside a 60g bottle.
The impacted batch was (B)231302 with an expiry date of 11/2026.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) said the glass may have entered the product during a packaging fault and warned that other bottles in the same batch could be affected.
If glass fragments are present and the powder is applied to an infant’s gums, it could result in pain, minor injuries, or more serious harm such as choking or internal damage.
The risk of gastrointestinal injury requiring urgent medical treatment was also noted.
Consumers were urged to stop using any product from the affected batch and return it to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement.
The recalled powder was sold at several outlets including Priceline, Chemist Warehouse, and Harris Farm Markets.
Customers seeking support could contact Weleda Australia by emailing [email protected].
Those concerned about possible exposure were advised to speak with a health professional immediately.
In a previous story, we explored another major recall that put consumer safety in the spotlight.
