ALDI Customers Shocked as Price of Popular Damora Crackers Skyrockets by Over 100%

We know prices are going up across the board, but surely we can still rely on the trusted budget supermarket ALDI, right?

We all associate ALDI with a couple of dollars saved. Still, recently, a member wrote in to alert us of an unexpected price increase at their local ALDI that is certainly not in line with the chain’s budget-friendly image.

In a surprising turn of events, shoppers at ALDI stores across the nation were left stunned after witnessing a significant price surge in one of their favourite products, Damora Fine Wafer Crackers. The beloved crackers, once a pocket-friendly snack option, have experienced an astronomical price increase of more than 100%, leaving customers in disbelief.

For the past four years, Damora Fine Wafers Crackers have reportedly maintained a steady price of approximately $1.90, making them an affordable and popular choice for customers. However, in an unexpected twist, the crackers now bear a staggering price tag of $3.89, more than double their previous cost. The sudden and substantial increase has sparked outrage among ALDI shoppers who are grappling with rising inflation rates.

Customers who frequent ALDI for its reputation of providing high-quality products at competitive prices were taken aback by the excessive shift. There is clear frustration over the soaring price of a snack that had become a household staple for many.

One SDC member shared their dismay, writing, ‘I think that is a bit over the top even in these inflationary times.’

Many are speculating that rising production costs, including raw materials and transportation expenses, may be contributing factors to the price increase.

The ongoing global supply chain disruptions and increased demand for certain products during the post-pandemic recovery phase have further complicated matters for retailers and suppliers alike.

The exact reasons for this substantial price increase remain unclear.

This isn’t the first time ALDI has hiked up their prices.

SDC member @Aussie Nana previously shared: ‘ALDI used to be very reasonably priced but it's getting just like any other store. Caged eggs went from $3.09 to $4.29 for a dozen in less than 6 months in Victoria.’

We also wrote an article back in April about a huge price jump in frozen vegetables. ALDI’s 1kg pack of frozen winter vegetables jumped from $2.72 in October 2022 to $4.19 in April 2023. You can read more about that story here.

Of course, ALDI is not alone, and price increases have been seen across all supermarket chains, with Coles and Woolworths also guilty of excessive price increases.

Key Takeaways

  • ALDI’s Damora Fine Wafer Crackers have increased in price from $1.90 to $3.89.
  • The price had previously remained steady for years.
  • ALDI has not commented on or confirmed the reason behind the price increase.

In this case, we hope that ALDI will take swift action to rectify the situation and restore the crackers to their previous affordable price point.

As we navigate through a period of economic uncertainty and inflationary pressures, the price hike of Damora Fine Wafer Crackers serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by shoppers in these unprecedented times.

Amazing that everyone wants higher wages and believes all of the crap Albo and his State are Federal politicians craps on about trying to satisfy the crazy greens yet winge when suppliers and wholesalers have to increase their prices just to keep their heads above water. Have these same wingers looked at the results of their BS about this alleged climate change and forcing our governments to close down coal fired power stations resulting in Australia’s power costs now the 2nd highest in the world and power prices in China and India, who are building hundreds of new coal fired power stations, amongst the cheapest in the world and booming economies?? Why on earth are we not investing in coal fired power stations using the technologies now available to minimise the alleged “dangerous “ climate changing emissions.
And another important fact to remember is that these alleged carbon emissions are essential for the development of the Agricultural Sector as proven in China and elsewhere where again alleged high carbon emissions have resulted in these countries having record high production levels of Agricultural production .

Most things in Aldi have gone up. The price of tin cat food doubled & that’s just one thing.

It's not just the milk. It's the processing and supply chain costs that have also gone up. Cheese is made using electricity. How much has your own electricity bill gone up in the last 12 months and how much more will it go up from 1 July? Now apply that to cheese making! And that is just one of the many increasing costs that all food producers and manufacturers have to deal with.

Get over it - they are not a staple food and not particularly healthy! Just eat less of them!
As the price goes up they fall off my list of grocery items. I buy the out-of-date stuff and freeze them.
