Aldi’s ‘colour-changing soap’ disappoints shoppers - “What am I doing wrong?”

How exciting is it to be strolling through Aldi and seeing a product that looks absolutely amazing, and costs next to nothing?! Sometimes a products description sounds too good to be true! And sometimes, they are too good to be true!
So when shoppers took notice of a colour-changing kids’ soap that presumably helps make handwashing a habit to look forward to, they immediately tossed it in their trolleys. According to the Aldi website, the $2 bottle of soap features ‘colour-changing technology’ which magically transforms the suds’ colour when hand washing is done correctly. It’s available in Strawberry and Raspberry, or Mango and Peach Smoothie.
However, several mums came forward with a huge issue… it doesn’t really seem to change colour!
“Did anyone else buy the ‘colour-changing’ soap? I can’t for the life of me figure out how to see the colour frigging change.” one bemused shopper asked online. “Anyone successfully seen the colour changing?”
With zero successful attempts at figuring out how to get the magical soap to work, the Aldi shopper from Western Australia was at the very least, relieved to hear she wasn’t the only one left in the dark.
Her post was swiftly filled with comments from fellow confused mums sharing a similar experience. Many claimed that they got their hands on the seemingly enchanting soap as a way to encourage their little ones to wash their hands thoroughly, but they were only let down and puzzled after testing it.
“I was so excited to show my four-year-old. We started washing our hands and I even said ‘it changes colour’ but then nothing happened…I was like, yep, I got sucked in.” one frustrated user commented.
“I thought it was just me not using it correctly.” another confided.
“Even the instructions are unclear…Run your hands underwater for 1 minute and see the colour change. All the suds are gone by then!” A third pointed out.
After countless attempts to make it work such as experimenting with the water temperature or different lengths of time, others expressed that the popular item was more of a regretful purchase than anything.
“Biggest waste of money.” a person wrote.
“I thought ‘oh my daughter would love this!’. I washed my hands a good ten times and nothing.” another said.

Though the soap turned out successful for some, the results were still way beneath the customers’ expectations.
“It’s absolute bullsh*t. I think it comes out with a slight pink tint and goes white but, yes, false advertising!” an infuriated shopper exclaimed.
“The one I have goes from a light yellow/orange and changes colour to white. My three-year-old was very disappointed.” another wrote.
“Starts light-coloured but turns white when it’s rubbed between your hands ... Not as ‘fun’ as I thought it would be.” a third added.
Despite the massive failure of the ‘colour-changing’ technology, a handful of customers mentioned that the only positive thing that came out of the purchase was the lovely scent.
“Only plus is it smells great.” a mum said.
“No colour change but it smells amazing.” agreed another.
Well, at least it’s not a complete flop, right? But still, it’s best to keep an eye out for products that pose as something they aren’t. We’re adding that as the 11th commandment: ‘Thou shall not be fooled by false advertising!’
