Airline baggage handler caught on camera hurling passengers' luggage: 'What a joke'
- Replies 1
Who doesn't love going on a trip? It's an opportunity to unwind, get away from the stress of daily life, and take in some fresh sights—which is especially timely now that summer is just around the corner!
But in recent years, flying has become more and more stressful – not only because of the actual process of travelling (long security lines, delayed flights, etc.) but also due to how airlines are treating their customers.
There have been countless reports of baggage handlers mishandling people's luggage, as well as stories of lost or stolen belongings while in transit. This has led many travellers to feel uneasy about checking their bags before boarding a flight.
And it seems like these fears may be justified, based on a recent incident involving a Qantas baggage handler in Western Australia…
On Sunday, at Karratha Airport in WA's Pilbara region, an employee for the airline was caught on camera roughly throwing passengers' luggage onto a trailer – with some bags even bouncing back onto the ground!
The footage quickly made its way around social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, where outraged viewers slammed the worker's behaviour as 'disgraceful'. Some even called for the worker to be fired from their job immediately.
'Wondered why my luggage comes out broken,' one user wrote in the comments section of the video, while another said: 'What a joke. Someone needs a change in career ASAP…'
Some, however, were more understanding and commented that the employee might have simply been having a bad day; they also asked why he was left to handle the workload by himself.
'We all get frustrated at work sometimes!' said one user.
Qantas responded by announcing that they would be investigating the matter and suspending the employee while they looked into what had happened.
This isn't the first time something like this has happened (just take a look at one of our previous stories), and unfortunately, it probably won't be the last.
With the rise of social media, it's easier than ever for people to record and share these kinds of incidents – which is good in some ways, as it holds airlines and their employees accountable.
