As we deck the halls and trim the tree, many of us also enjoy adding a touch of festive cheer to our bedrooms with seasonal bedding.
However, a recent safety alert has been issued that may have some Australians rethinking their holiday decor.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has announced an urgent recall of several Christmas-themed bedding sets sold at Kmart stores nationwide due to a chemical defect.
The affected products include Kmart’s Mr & Mrs Claus queen bed quilt cover set, the Christmas Elf reversible single bed quilt cover set, the Merry Christmas pillowcase set, the Santa & Elves pillowcase set, and the Christmas Quilt single bed quilt cover set.
These sets, which have brought the joy of the season to many homes, are now a cause for concern.
'The product emits a strong chemical odour that may cause reactions to consumers, as it did not cure properly during the manufacturing process,’ the recall notice stated.
This defect poses a significant health risk, as there is the potential for 'serious injury and/or illness if the products come into contact with skin or if the odour is inhaled’.
These items were available for purchase both in-store and online from 22 September to 4 December.
If you've decked out your bedroom with these festive linens, it's crucial to take immediate action.
The ACCC advises customers to 'stop using the product immediately' and to return the quilt cover to their nearest Kmart store for a full refund.
For those who may be affected by this recall, Kmart Australia can be contacted at 1800 124 125 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, for more information.

This comes after several Kmart shoppers have reported the quilt covers due to a series of health scares.
For one, a Gold Coast mum shared her ‘horrific’ ordeal with the quilt cover as it smelled like ‘jet fuel’, and her son began to exhibit asthma symptoms, and her husband woke up with severe chest pains after using it.
It was in contrast to Kmart’s previous statement that their sheets were ‘safe’, despite being pulled out from stores.
