ACCC issues urgent recall for certain foldable bikes over safety flaw

Cycling enthusiasts note that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued an urgent recall for the Brompton T Line bikes due to a manufacturing flaw that could lead to serious injury.

This recall is a critical reminder of the importance of product safety and the vigilance required to maintain our bicycles.


The defect in question involves the steerer clamp of certain Brompton T Line bikes.

‘There is a risk of accident and serious injury if the rider loses steering control while the bike is in use,’ the ACCC announced.

‘Consumers should stop using the bikes immediately.’

Repairs will be carried out free of charge at any Brompton dealer.

For the more mechanically inclined, there is an option to perform the repair at home.

‘Consumers who have a bicycle torque wrench and are comfortable completing the repair themselves should follow the instructions on the recall website to tighten their steerer clamp hinge bolts.’ the notice continued.

‘Consumers who are not comfortable completing the repair themselves or who may not be able to visit a Brompton dealer ‘can contact Brompton for assistance in arranging a repair.’


The affected bikes were manufactured before 21 June 2024 and have serial numbers ranging from 2104190001 to 2406070001.

They were sold both nationally and internationally between 1 February 2022 and 24 July 2024.

If you own a Brompton T Line bike, it's crucial to check your serial number and confirm whether your bike is part of the recall.
