95-year-old Queen Elizabeth II hospitalised following a last-minute cancellation of Northern Ireland trip
Buckingham Palace has reported that Her Majesty was hospitalised after she cancelled a visit to Northern Island on Wednesday, adding that the monarch was in ‘good spirits’ after seeing doctors and undergoing tests.
The 95-year-old Queen was admitted to an unnamed hospital in London and was discharged the following day.
“Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today and remains in good spirits,” the Palace said.
The last-minute cancellation of the long-planned trip to Northern Ireland came after Her Majesty “reluctantly accepted medical advice”. The Palace also added that the Queen was "disappointed" that the visit could not push forward.
It must be noted that since March 2013, where the longest-reigning British monarch was treated for a stomach bug, the Queen has not been in an overnight stay until last Wednesday.
Although the monarch has been spotted in ‘high spirits’ in public events, Her Majesty’s health has been in headlines following her use of a walking stick for support in recent engagements.
Queen Elizabeth II’s next scheduled engagement is the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow later this month.
