$5 Kmart item discovery leaves customers ‘horrified’

Kmart is no stranger to offering shoppers a bargain, but one of the latest finds from the retailer is one that might make you think twice about purchasing that next toy or play set for the grandkids.

This is because an innocent shopper recently made a shocking discovery on the shelves of their local Kmart store – which caused parents everywhere to collectively shudder.

The customer took to the popular social media page Kmart Hacks & Décor after spotting the $5.50 Garden Fairies set on her local store’s shelves.

But instead of sharing the nice details about the product, the shopper wanted to focus on one startling detail.

‘A little bit dark, Kmart,’ she wrote in her post.

It didn't take long for her followers to realise why she said what she said, as it quickly emerged that three of the fairies were, in fact, headless.

The post took many by surprise, with many social media users commenting on how their children would react to seeing the mutilated fairies. Others said they were both ‘horrified’ upon seeing the toys.

‘What kind of sick gimmick is this, Kmart?’ One social media user stated.

Others poked fun at the blunder.

‘All I can hear is the Red Queen of Hearts screaming “off with their heads!”,’ someone said.

‘Hello darkness, my old friend,’ another replied, referencing a Simon & Garfunkel song that's popular among the younger generation, typically used to convey despair or existential angst and the humour in it.

‘Just noticed no ankles on the right one too,’ a keen-eyed customer wrote, pointing out the fairy’s detached limbs.

Others weren’t bothered by the defective product, with one saying: ‘I want 10.’

‘For $5, I’m getting some for my fairy garden, but I’ll look for ones that haven’t been beheaded,’ another replied.

While many of the parents found the situation funny, others were appalled that the kid’s item was still on the shelves and visible to shoppers, even though it wasn’t ‘kid-friendly’.

‘The worst part is, they’ll send that out to someone who does an online order!’ One social media user said.

‘Wow, if they break that easily, wouldn't want it near small kids, choking hazard,’ another warned.

One Kmart shopper shared that she purchased the fairies for her daughter, and the same thing happened within minutes of them opening the box.

‘They lasted two seconds. One very little girl was so upset. I wouldn't recommend buying them,’ the shopper explained.

Some people pointed out that the items were clearly damaged while in transit.

‘Personally, my kids would love this! But honestly, things break, and employees can't be expected to notice every little thing,’ the shopper explained.

It’s not the first time Kmart customers had a laugh over something funny online. One Kmart employee, Liam Gildea, gave customers a treat when he made an unusual announcement over the store’s loudspeakers one day.

In a video he posted online, Liam can be seen holding his phone to the microphone and talking to someone out of the camera’s frame. Then, he pressed a button on his phone and played the famous classical composition ‘Spring’ by Vivaldi before making the outlandish announcement. Find out what he said in this article.

Certainly different and not into my trolley. But,
I love Kmart and some of their items. Their prices are making the others rethink their prices. I've noticed a difference with the new Kmart, now old as the years have gone by. But, Kmart themselves were once very expensive. They out-priced themselves on items that they use to sell. Things like dvds', blu-ray, cds. They no longer sell them but they were rather expensive when they did sell them. Even Target were expensive. Look at Target. They left it too long to rethink how they retail items, prices and not just that but where their stores were located in retail giants like Westfield. It awkward spots. If you are running any company, you display yourself and situated where everyone can see you. Get their attention even if they are walking by. Plus, do great window displays even though the window area is rather small. Utilise that space to draw people in.

Kmart had to Get Smart otherwise they were going to go under in Australia and if it happened in Australia, then New Zealand would have closed up as well. Well, they addressed the issues and they did this very well. They also employ many people and people with disabilities. They are situated in a lot of areas. They bring in a lot of business as well for other retail outlets in Westfield including cafes, fast food outlets, food courts. Big W also had to readdressed their thinking but this person at the top of Big W was short lived and barely there for 12 months until he resigned 'in a hurry.' I'm guessing he got The Boot. The new on and his Side Kicks are not so smart as well. The new Big W advertisement for household furniture that is well over-priced to ridiculous over pricing. I had a look at their website and I wonder where their heads are at = equates to Clueless.

I just wish Kmart would improve their computer system to track down items much easier when not available online.

It all depends how one shops and needs items. Always do the price comparison. Kmart should always play it smart and not get ahead of themselves. It only takes one fool to become CEO and make his/her side-kicks suck up to him/her and ruin the company and all because over-priced items.

Also, there will always be people in management like the Marketing & Sales areas that do not have a clue about what to buy. This Fairy item is proof of that.
