103-year-old celebrates birthday with a twist: ‘It’s full of joy’

When it comes to celebrating the milestones of life, age is just a number, and no one proves this better than Vera Sak, who recently celebrated her 103rd birthday.

At Chestnuts Care Centre in the United Kingdom, Vera and her friends showed that you're never too old to enjoy a good party, complete with all the trimmings of a neon-soaked dance floor.

Vera's rave-inspired birthday bash on 1 March was a vibrant affair, with the care home transforming one of their rooms into a club-like atmosphere adorned with neon balloons, flashing lights, and glowsticks.

The centenarian herself donned neon green glasses, a tutu, and leg warmers, embracing the party spirit with an energy that was both inspiring and infectious.

Surrounded by her loving family, including her two sons, Robert and John, care home staff, and fellow residents, Vera was the life of the party.

The celebration was not just about marking another year in Vera's long life but also about creating a moment of pure joy for everyone involved.

Her son John expressed his gratitude towards the care home staff for their exceptional efforts, noting that the room was 'full of joy' and thanked the care home staff for ‘pushing the boat out’.

'They've gone above the call of duty, I think the staff here are so wonderful,’ he said.

'Rather than just leave the residents to their own devices, there's always something going on here.’

'It's a two-way thing–some residents can't respond as well as others, but this room today is full of joy.’

The dedication of the care home staff at Chestnuts Residential Home, part of the St Philips Care Group in the United Kingdom, is evident in their commitment to celebrating the uniqueness and individuality of their residents.

'We always plan special events for our residents' birthday,’ Emma Phillips, the Care Home Manager, said.

'The team have worked incredibly hard on this party, but it's not every day that someone turns 103.'

Tracy Atkins, Chief Operating Officer of the St Philips Care Group, said, 'All of our care homes promote the uniqueness and individuality of their residents.’

'Our staff do an incredible job of bringing joy and entertainment to the residents every day, but this is something special.’

'I am so impressed by the dedication and hard work of our staff to plan and hold such an amazing event to celebrate Vera's birthday.'

Go Vera, I’m sure a wonderful time was had by everyone. Holding parties or balls, dances, concerts in care homes adds so much to the clients life, both the homes I worked in used to hold regular parties for clients birthdays, theme days for every special day/time of year eg, St Patricks Day, Easter, clients and staff all dressed up. A great time was had by all, especially the clients. it was very hard work for the staff but the rewards of seeing the clients having a great time made it all worthwhile.
