“This is insane!”: Mum and son’s bizarre find in eggs makes the rounds on social media
Eggs are a breakfast staple for many people across the globe.

Whether you like them fried, scrambled, or poached, cracking an egg could be the way to start your day, every day.

However, for one mum and son, this seemingly normal morning routine turned out to be not-so-normal and what happened to them has gone viral on social media.

Kirsten and son Kai, who were staying in Yamba on the NSW North Coast for the holidays, were preparing a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs when they discovered an egg with a double yolk.

Although the odds of finding an egg with a double yolk is one-in-a-thousand, Kai repeatedly cracked the eggs — which the mum and son bought at the Coles Yamba store — with double yolks into the frying pan.

Kirsten then immediately took a video of the bizarre incident and posted it on Coles' Facebook page, writing: "Nine eggs and 18 yolks. Where do you get your chickens, Coles?"

The mum was losing it when her son cracked the eighth egg with a double yolk.

She said in the video: "This is insane."

“Are you doing another one?” she asked her son, to which he replied with: “Oh yeah, I’ll do another one."

To their surprise, the ninth egg also had a double yolk.

Kirsten then concluded the video by showing the viewers the label of the dozen Coles Jumbo Free Range Eggs she purchased from the Yamba store of the supermarket earlier this week.

“These are the eggs you want to be getting guys,” she said.

Kirsten told Yahoo News Australia that she and her son, Kai, were excited when Kai cracked the first egg with a double yolk.

However, by the time her son cracked the ninth egg, they were "mind-blown" as each egg was a double yolker.

She said: “There are still three eggs in the carton. Might be a full dozen doublers,”

“Don’t know what’s going on with the chickens up here."

The mum also insinuated that the extraordinary find might be a lucky sign, saying: “Might have to buy a lotto ticket!”

If you're wondering if double yolkers are safe to eat, don't worry, Kelly Seagrave from Eggs Australia confirmed that these eggs are edible.

"Double yolkers are definitely safe to eat," she said.

Yes the double-yokers were seen fairly often when we had them from the chooks down the road from me growing up. Saying it's unusual is just a bad YOKE. Haha.

Reminds me of a family story about my great-aunt. She was a rich as Croesus and as tight as a fish's backside (and that's watertight). One day she prevailed upon her two brothers to help her around the house, chopping wood, gardening, etc. (Free labour. She could have paid somebody to do the work but was too stingy for that). They worked hard all morning and at lunchtime she said, "I guess I will have to make you lunch. You can have an egg". That's it - two men doing hard physical labour and all she intended to give them for lunch was one egg. When she cracked it in the pan, it turned out to be a double-yoker, so she split it in two and gave them half each!

SOO, how many eggs do they have for breakfast? or did they crack them all just for the fun of it and throw them away? Double-yolkers were very common years ago

Double yolkers 🥚 🥚 are nothing new.
I got them regularly when I lived in Canberra but I’ve gotta add I never had 9 double yolkers.
That’s unique.

I used to buy farm eggs and often got double yolkers...I'm surprised they got them from the shop, as they are not 'standard' and usually rejected, which is why we got them in direct sales (they have a light they pass over and if egg is not standard, it's usually pulled out of the line).... so I'm amazed they got a box of them, unless someone had made a box up for themselves and it accidentally went into the wrong pile.... I don't know why they're rejected as everyone feels they've been given a bonus when they get one! 👍👍
