“No 54-year-old's body looks like that”: Nicole Kidman’s Vanity Fair cover sparks controversy

After nearly 40 years of acting in more than 80 film and TV projects, Nicole Kidman is considered one of Australia’s greatest film industry icons.

With a multitude of award-winning films in her arsenal, it’s no wonder that the 54-year-old veteran actress got nominated this year for a Best Actress Oscar, for playing the role of the American actress Lucille Ball in Being The Ricardos.

The nomination even landed her her own Vanity Fair cover for their 28th annual Hollywood issue, along with fellow actors Idris Elba, Kristen Stewart, Penelope Cruz, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simu Liu, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Andrew Garfield, who also got their own covers this year.

However, it seems that Kidman’s fans weren’t exactly “happy” with her cover photo.

Nicole Kidman’s cover photo in Vanity Fair’s 2022 Hollywood Issue features a rather skimpy schoolgirl-like ensemble from the avant-garde fashion line Miu Miu. She wore a low-slung belted mini-skirt (emphasis on the mini!), paired with a matching pleated bralette top, a pair of grey-coloured high socks, and slingback loafers.

But the main attraction in her outfit is her exposed midriff, showing off her miles-long toned abs.

Her picture was taken by renowned photographers Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, and she was dressed by British stylist Katie Grand.

But Kidman’s fans weren’t exactly ecstatic when they saw her photo, with many calling out the publication and the team behind the cover for the “terrible dress choice” and “really bad Photoshop”.

One person wrote on Twitter: “One of the most prolific actresses (and also most beautiful) and she is presented as a skimpily dressed school girl. In 2022. Who thought this was a good idea?”

Many more fans agreed and criticised the magazine for their stylistic choices and “insane airbrushing”.

One user even pointed out that her left knee is facing the wrong way, mismatching with the direction her left foot is facing. Another person speculated that the team behind the shoot seemed to have placed Kidman’s head on an entirely different body.

“No 54-year-old’s body looks like that, not even Nicole Kidman’s. Why are we still doing this s**t?” added another.

However, Vanity Fair seemed to have wheeled in on the speculations that Kidman’s body was “photoshopped” by posting a video on Instagram, showing the actress’ toned body in all its moving glory.

We have to admit, Nicole Kidman really does have an amazing body, to begin with! But what do you think? Did the publication really go overboard on her photo?

Very ugly dress choice - she is such a beautiful lady that dressing her up as some kind of school girl porn star is quite disrespectful for one of our most awarded actors - I can’t understand why she would have permitted it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I doubt there was any need to photoshop Nicole she is always skinny. The choice of outfit is another thing. Certainly not respectful or suitable for someone who is such a revered actress and noted for her style and elegance.
