The star-studded show, which was dubbed Australian music's 'night of nights', featured exclusive performances from Australian artists — such as The Kid LAROI and RÜFÜS DU SOL — as well as head-turning fashion looks. International artists such as Ed Sheeran and Charli XCX were also in attendance at the show to present the awards to the winners. Aussie global popstar Troye Sivan also joined the panel of award presenters.

While viewers tuned into the show via YouTube and 9Now, where the award show was streamed digitally for the very first time, they were shocked by how short it was.

The event, which notably had a pre-show at 6:30 pm, only ran its actual program for an hour from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Wednesday night.

This major change has caused viewers to take to Twitter to express their disappointment over the length of the program, with many pointing out that the award show normally lasts for at least two hours.

One viewer wrote: “Shortest ARIAs ever. For the biggest Australian music showcase of the year, that was a bit sad.”

“Well that was such a short and strange awards show this year,” another added.

One viewer pointed out that several awards had already been handed before the program even started, writing: “Would have been cool if more awards had been presented during the live stream of the ARIAs. The operative word being ‘awards’.”

“Hang on, what the hell am I supposed to do now?” wrote another.

One sarcastically wrote: “An hour? It used to take that long to get home from Homebush!”

“At that length, the ARIAs could have been on TV. Celebrate Aussie music and artists properly,” another wrote,

And another added: “Poor Aussie music industry. So much to celebrate. Give the time to the ARIAs.”

Other viewers said that the annual award show was just simply "not the same as it used to be", with many saying that they weren't even aware that it was on.

Hip-hop newcomer Genesis Owusu ended up being the night's big winner, winning four of his six nominations.

Do we really care who wins on Arias especially during these times?? Would prefer awards for healthcare and other essential workers. Surely we need to focus on life's important things like saving the planet from destruction!!! :)
