Here's what happened when the lights went down at Event Cinemas Miranda.
A Sydney cinema outing quickly turned into a nightmare for one moviegoer.
Talia Walker had just entered one of the screening rooms at Event Cinemas Miranda when she noticed something unexpected.
A seat in the aisle was covered in mould.
As she filmed, it became clear this was no isolated incident.
The camera moved to the next row, revealing that several chairs had been overtaken by the fungus.
The seat’s arm was blotched with fuzzy growths, a sight that could turn anyone off their popcorn.
Ms Walker described the smell as unbearable.
‘It smelt like vinegar and mould, as if they had tried to clean or hide it…ended up leaving early due to the smell,’ she said.
Others were also disturbed by the odour.
‘A few others went out to complain about the smell but didn’t get anyone coming in to check,’ she added.
She even tried to find a seat without mould, but couldn’t escape the issue.
‘The whole experience made me feel gross and uncomfortable when I just wanted to relax and watch a movie,’ she said.
The situation worsened when a patron left early due to the smell.
Event Cinemas blamed the outbreak on recent weather conditions.
‘Due to the recent weather that Sydney has experienced including rain and high humidity, our cinemas at Miranda experienced some mould,’ a spokesman explained.
‘This issue has been resolved.’
