‘It’s definitely a little hidden gem’: And it’s where Aussies are finding 99c grocery deals!

Grocery prices have been climbing steadily, making it harder for everyday Aussies—especially seniors—to stretch their budgets.

But one savvy shopper has uncovered a surprising solution tucked away in regional Queensland, where prices seem stuck in the past.

What she found has sparked a wave of interest, with many now rethinking where they buy their weekly staples.

In a quiet corner of the Sunshine Coast hinterland, one woman uncovered a lesser-known destination that seemed almost too good to be true.

On a recent visit to the town of Beerwah, Amy Coulston stepped inside a Fresh & Save Warehouse during one of its limited-time sale weeks—and what she found has since captured the attention of thousands online.

Fresh & Save, an Australian-owned and operated warehouse, had been quietly offering major discounts at its nine locations across Queensland and New South Wales.

During selected weeks, shoppers could walk away with top-brand groceries, local produce, and even meat and bakery items for just 99 cents.

Amy, who usually did her monthly shopping at Woolies, admitted she made a special trip when the warehouse’s discount events rolled around.

‘It’s definitely a little hidden gem,’ she shared..

The warehouse’s signature 99-cent sale wasn’t the only event worth waiting for. Amy explained that Fresh & Save also hosted $2 and $5 weeks throughout the year, giving customers an affordable way to stock up when prices elsewhere continued to climb.

‘I generally shop monthly at Woolies and will only go to Fresh & Save on the sale weeks, so it’s more of a bonus when the sales are on,’ she added.

Each warehouse featured its own on-site bakery and butchery, ensuring shoppers could find freshly made bread and quality meat without busting their budget. While the deals varied from store to store, the Beerwah location left a strong impression.

Amy shared a video of her experience to social media, showing shelf after shelf of recognisable brands and essential pantry items—each one marked at just 99 cents.

‘It’s 99-cent week at Fresh & Save in Beerwah. This store was full of 99-cent groceries,’ she said in the video.

Her basket quickly filled with surprising bargains—snacks like Pringles, Twisties, Cadbury, Cocobella yoghurt and biscuits, as well as cooking staples like flour, sugar, and minced garlic.

‘The two for 99c pasta is a pretty awesome deal, and the 99c bags of chips, which are often five times more expensive elsewhere. A lot of the pantry staples are great for stocking up too,’ she explained.

Amy noted that most of the products she bought were still months away from expiry, with some good for another year.

Beyond the snack aisle, the warehouse was offering meats and produce for just 99 cents each. From sausages to avocados, pumpkins, carrots, potatoes, watermelons (99 cents per kilo), and kiwis—the deals seemed endless.

Household items and pet food also made the cut, with toothpastes, dishwashing liquids, gravy mixes, instant noodles, and even cat and dog food all available at the same bargain price.

‘There’s so many deals, it’s actually crazy,’ Amy said.

‘Each store has different deals—they’re so good. Definitely go check out Fresh & Save if you haven’t already.’

‘There’s so much hidden things around the store so definitely check all the different aisles, you’ll never know what you’re going to find in there.’

The response to Amy’s video was swift. With over 50,000 views on social media, many shoppers shared their own experiences and praised the brand for offering relief in tough economic times.

‘It’s great there. Such a huge help on the times I can make it,’ one person said.

‘When I visit my son and his partner I always go to the Beerwah store. It’s such good value. Wish we had it closer to us in NSW,’ another wrote.

‘I got a massive bag of groceries for $25,’ one shared.

Another added: ‘Fresh & Save is a Queensland business and franchisees are usually locals. Shopping there is so good for the local economy. It’s a big reason I shop there every fortnight.’

With locations in Armidale, Grafton, Beerwah, Deagon, Eagleby, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Morayfield and Richlands, Fresh & Save quietly built a loyal customer base—many of whom now keep an eye out for the next big markdown week.
