‘He leaves a huge hole in our hearts’: Former Sunrise presenter shares devastating loss

Losing a loved one is always heartbreaking, but when it happens suddenly and far from home, the grief can feel even more overwhelming.

What was meant to be a special journey took an unexpected and devastating turn, leaving an Australian television icon navigating an unimaginable loss.

Now, tributes are pouring in as those closest to them reflect on cherished memories and a life well lived.

Australian journalist Kay McGrath has shared the heartbreaking news that her fiancé, Richard Moore, passed away while they were travelling overseas.

McGrath revealed that Moore suffered a sudden heart attack in Agra, India, despite the efforts of local doctors to save him.

‘My darling fiancé and soulmate Richard has passed away after suffering a sudden and totally unexpected heart attack in Agra, India,’ she wrote in a social media post.

‘Local doctors did all they could to save him.’

She found some comfort in knowing they had shared a special moment the day before his passing, visiting the Taj Mahal together.

‘I’ll always treasure that and all the wonderful memories we created together over many years,’ she wrote.

McGrath described Moore as ‘so loved and valued by family and friends’.

‘He leaves a huge hole in our hearts. A king, smart, generous, wickedly funny and genuinely good man—we all miss you so much darling.’

Tributes poured in for Moore, with friends and loved ones expressing their devastation over the loss.

‘I keep re-reading this and hoping it’s not real. How absolutely heartbreaking. All our love to you and the family,’ one wrote.

‘Reading this took all of my breath out of my body. I truly cannot imagine what you’re going through, but we are here for you always. I wish I could hug you right now,’ another commented.

‘My heart breaks for you all,’ someone else added.

Moore, a businessman, had been engaged to McGrath since 2016.

In a 2023 interview, McGrath spoke about her deep appreciation for their relationship.

‘He supports me and understands that I still need to plug into city life,’ she said.

‘We do have one of the longest engagements, but I think it’s a bit sexier to be engaged than married.’
