The government has asked for bold proposals. Maybe it’s time to consider taxing the family home

Last time I looked, an uncle was classed as a relative, and Robert was a long way of saying Bob, but I could be wrong on those two counts .

Teacher’s clever trick sends $10 Bunnings gadget flying off shelves

Where's the Donald and his "fake news" when you need him? An $89 item that costs $10? Bloody proofreaders! Oh, I know ... this was supposed to be covered in another story, it just got caught up in the cutting and pasting process, that's all.

Australia’s care crisis is growing—is your family ready for the challenge?

I wonder whether anyone has ever worked out what the AVERAGE cost for a "dwelling" -- not a unit or cottage in one of the aged care facilities -- just a room, is? Secondly, who owns the majority of these places? That's not a bad start-off to explain where the crisis lies.

AI out, humans in? After outcry, the Commonwealth Bank abandons contentious plan

Way of the immediate future ... how many times do you get caught in the "information tree"? Press 1 for this; press 2 for that; press 3 for something else; press 4 (or whatever is the last option after you've exhausted all the possibilities) to speak to a hoomin.

I wonder how the poor bloody millionaires get on trying to handle this little wrinkle in their lives?

The super trap that could cost your family thousands: Why your best intentions might backfire

Nothing like making life easier when you're edging up to the final drop-off, is there? Or should I say making life a lot easier for the government to grab more of your hard-earned?

The ANU is moving to kill the Australian National Dictionary – this is why it matters

That'd be right. It's called the "lowest common denominator", or the bottom feeders.

The ANU is moving to kill the Australian National Dictionary – this is why it matters

That would definitely NOT work these days ... it would be impossible for anyone who's not Strayan to get the gist of it.

The ANU is moving to kill the Australian National Dictionary – this is why it matters

If people are worried about the general population losing their Strayan identity because words have been dropped from everyday speech, according to this dictionary, the first thing to worry about is to get people using dictionaries again (or even, God forbid, a thesaurus!) in the first place...

‘It is really concerning’: How fake police videos are fuelling gun law debate

Ah, yes ... AI and computer-generated images: welcome to our brave new world!

The government has asked for bold proposals. Maybe it’s time to consider taxing the family home

Seems like some little ferret in the ATO happened on the 1915 to 1923 way of doing things and thought, "This is a bloody good idea! Let's just write it quietly into the Budget papers and Robert's your relative! Simples."

Punctuation, punctuation ... it helps a little bit every now and then.

‘Please make yourself available’ or pay up to $330—the rental threat no tenant should ignore

Thanks for the clarification, as some wouldn't be able to find it.

‘Please make yourself available’ or pay up to $330—the rental threat no tenant should ignore

I won't. I know my limits. Strangest thing ... in a reply to Suzanne Rose earlier, I deliberately used "posr" in place of "post" in keeping with the subject matter of people not reading what they type and send -- nobody picked up on it. Funny, that.

If you care to wander over to any of your dictionaries (remember them?), preferably the OED, you might just find the definition of the old English word "wont". I bet you take umbrage at the word "girt", too.
