    points aren't cost free....its just you dont see the costs as they accumulate ....points are actually less than 1 cent and the rewards are based on full retail prices that hardly anyone pays anyway....sure you can get 4 cents off fuel at loyalty s/stations ...but you can get them anyway..normal...
