Tap-and-Go Nation: Inside Australia’s $160 Billion Cashless Boom

Nobody's making up stories. I moved from the Westpac bank and closed my account because they wouldn't let my withdraw $5,000, even though there was a lot more than that in my account. They said I had to give two days notice for that much cash. What sort of a bank doesn't have $5,000 in cash.

Yes. It was sad Vegie. Particularly the Kewpie doll because it was irreplaceable.

Popular shopping site faces EU blowback over alleged illegal and unsafe product sales

I have many shoes and sandals I've bought from Temu. I'm always complimented on my footwear, asked where I buy them from. They have all come in a box with the shoes wrapped in tissue. I don't know where you bought yours but I've never paid more than $32 as little as $15 ,for sandals. I have...

Tap-and-Go Nation: Inside Australia’s $160 Billion Cashless Boom

Yes they're all the same. When I turned 14 my great aunt gave my a one inch tall solid gold Kewpie doll on a gold chain which had been handed down through the family. She never had any children so she gave it to me. I cherished it for years, wore it on my wedding day. One day I went to wear...

Popular shopping site faces EU blowback over alleged illegal and unsafe product sales

I agree . I have had no problems with the quality of anything I've bought from Temu. Some people buy the cheapest things and then complain about the quality. They wouldn't have the massive turnover they have if everything was rubbish.

Banks to refund $60m of 'excessive' fees but CommBank withholds $270m

Most people are just too lazy and complacent to do anything about it. I have a family member who continues to stick with the Commonwealth Bank for their mortgage when they could get at least .5% lower elsewhere .

Where do you get all this garbage from and why on earth do you believe it??

Another reason banks and shops want us to go cashless.

Popular shopping site faces EU blowback over alleged illegal and unsafe product sales

I shop on Temu all the time. I have never had a problem with any item. In fact I would highly recommend them. Obviously do your own due diligence. They are agents. Not manufacturers. You can often see the same garment at two or three different prices. I place things in the cart but don't...

Older Aussies built this country—so why are some being evicted in their 80s?

Tap-and-Go Nation: Inside Australia’s $160 Billion Cashless Boom

Transferring to another's account is not the problem, it's accessing cash that's the problem. If you want $5000 in cash you have to make prior arrangements There's no way you can just walk into a bank and get $250 000 in cash.

Tap-and-Go Nation: Inside Australia’s $160 Billion Cashless Boom

Did you work for a bank or something. You seem to be a bit of a loner out here, stcking up for the banks. I lived in a town with thousands of people, but they didn't have a bank. Nobody is saying a town of 50 people expects to have a bank. In fact 50 people is hardly a town, more like a hamlet.

Tap-and-Go Nation: Inside Australia’s $160 Billion Cashless Boom

No, they just close down branches and remove ATMs and, in general, make it difficult for people to access their cash. A large number of country towns have had their banks closed down and have no access to an ATM and residents have to drive long distances if they want cash. So it's either large...

Tap-and-Go Nation: Inside Australia’s $160 Billion Cashless Boom

I'm not sure about all Post Offices. It was the first, and last, time I will be doing that. My IGA charged me $7 for $50 cash out. Mind you, I live in a small country town and we don't have much choice I've never been charged in a Coles or Woolies., but they are a distance away.

Tap-and-Go Nation: Inside Australia’s $160 Billion Cashless Boom

I'm not paranoid, just honest. Years ago people were saying banks wouldn't be closing down, nobody thought ATMs would start disappearing. I don't think cash will disappear altogether, but only because of the backlash not because the banks wouldn't like it that way. I'm quite settled thanks...

Banks to refund $60m of 'excessive' fees but CommBank withholds $270m

It appears Commonwealth Bank are a law unto themselves. Using the excuse that these people had been advised of these fees. A lot of these people are not well educated, and probably didn't comprehend what they were being told. In any case it was the bank's responsibility to ensure they were...

Webjet fined $9 million for excluding fees from ads, falsely confirming bookings

What annoys me the most with Webjet is the way fares are for a set time, if you browse too long the fares you were looking at go up. What a lot of BS. I have often logged out and booked elsewhere at the original fare.

Tap-and-Go Nation: Inside Australia’s $160 Billion Cashless Boom

So true. I used to pay my employees by cash cheque and the bank even put a stop to that. Years ago I moved to Kalgoorlie and went to the bank there to close my account over a dispute I had with them in the town where I had previously had my account. The bank manager told me he would have to...
