$500 up for grabs? Here’s what the new cost-of-living boost could mean for you

Because they're inefficient. Read the article. They use about 20,000 litres more water annually than a front loader.

Better Late Than Never? Why Delaying Your Age Pension Claim Could Cost You Thousands

My Google search states if parents pay board and lodging to their children this is classed as a domestic arrangement and they do not have to declare this for tax purposes. You can only claim rent assistance on what is classed as the lodging part of the arrangement. They usually consider 2/3rds...

Better Late Than Never? Why Delaying Your Age Pension Claim Could Cost You Thousands

I totally agree with you, in your circumstances. But the article stated that 56% of people don't apply on time. That's an awful lot of disorganised people.

Better Late Than Never? Why Delaying Your Age Pension Claim Could Cost You Thousands

Correct. It is added to my bank interest and then I am taxed on the lot. The only way it is not taxed is if you are solely reliant on the pension and that's only because they pay such a lousy amount it's not enough to be taxable.

No husband, no kids, no regrets—why her $1.6m retirement plan has everyone talking

To each his own I guess. I would not sell my home so my children could buy theirs. Too many of the younger generation live well above their means. Our generation didn't get where they are by taking overseas trips, running the kids to school in a 4 wheel drive, wanting our first home to be a...

Better Late Than Never? Why Delaying Your Age Pension Claim Could Cost You Thousands

Exactly. I can't believe that people leave things to the last minute and need weeks to sort out their "paperwork". Surely you know when you are going to reach pension age and have everything up and ready to go. I started getting everything in order well in advance . Why wait until the last...

    The Demon Drink

Absolutely can't stand the taste of beer, or the smell of it for that matter. Probably has a lot to do with the fact my ex was an alcoholic, of the very agro kind. He went to bed smelling of beer, woke up smelling of stale beer. I woke up one morning to the usual stale beer smell, said to myself...

What July 1 brings for Aussie seniors

Well couples are more likely to have twice as many Drs visits, twice as many prescriptions, eat twice as much food, need twice as many clothes, wash twice as many clothes, perhaps they need glasses, hearing aids, etc. If you go out together to a Cafe you pay twice as much. Same for the movies...

Twice a year, but a pittance. March and September.

What July 1 brings for Aussie seniors

A weekend getaway for $156??? What planet would that be on??? The average cost for a motel room in Australia is $100 to $150 per night. None of this is of any assistance to the person who is reliant just on the age pension. Why do they think cost of living relief to the value of $66/ft is...

Before you pack your bags, here’s how travel could change your Centrelink payments

Disability Pension ceases after 28 days. I don't understand why. That means if my daughter was to travel overseas with me and we went for more than 28 days her DSP would cease. Even though I was paid disabled child's allowance from when she was born and she was granted DSP when that stopped...

Kmart’s $79 winter buy has shoppers talking: ‘Best purchase ever!’

We had one of these and very quickly disposed of it. Electricity guzzlers like most electric radiators. Cheap to purchase, expensive to run.

Retired, caring, and counting: What Carer Allowance means for older Aussies

You can't have the carer payment and the aged pension. Only one or the other. You may however qualify for the carer allowance which is $159.30/fortnight and is not means tested so won't affect your other payment. This would depend on how much daily care your son requires. You can pick up the...
