Hard to Handle: How Everyday Products Are Failing Older Australians

I can relate whole heartedly to this article, it sums it up completly. I'm considering buying a new TV, but am reluctant to do so as the thought of having to learn how to work it puts me off. Its the same with any new item I buy. I can relate to the difficulty of jar opening ,and items where...

Shoppers frustrated over checkout practice in ALDI. Did this catch your attention, too?

Yes, I was asked this week to show my bag in Aldi even though it looked flat and empty. I'm always happy to do so and I don't think it to be an imposition. When you have nothing to hide it's not an issue. I tend to show my bag to the staff anyway and always get a thank you for doing so.

Is this phone etiquette disappearing over the years? Here's what Aussies think!

It's automatic to start a conversation with my name when I'm making a call. I never say my name when answering a call because the caller should know who they are calling. If the caller hasn't introduced themselves I always ask who's calling before acknowledging them.

Coles and Woolies pay hidden $6 million cost, ALDI stays out

I never really noticed the music, but now it's mentioned, I much prefer the peace and quiet of Aldi's. I don't feel music makes me buy more because I always go in with a list and rarely impulse buy.

What’s the best excuse you’ve ever used to get out of something you didn’t want to do?

I rang the office to let my boss know I would be late coming into work that morning because I had to take my cat to the vet urgently. When I arrived my boss said, "I thought you could have dreamt up a better excuse that that". My reason for being late was genuine. Sometimes truth doesn't pay .

Good one. It would be a great incentive to pack one's own, if they offered a discount to do so. :)

'Can anyone explain why?': Coles' self-checkout policy confuses shoppers

If I was half way through checking out and was asked to start again, I would leave the lot and walk out. But then I go through the manned checkouts anyway.

Ask Joy: Setting Boundaries or How To Say No Nicely

Great article. It's hard to say no and a way to do it nicely. I smile and say "sorry, I'm not comfortable in doing this "and after a while the more you say it the easier it gets to say no.
