Drivers of SUVs and pick-ups should pay more to be on our roads. Here’s how to make the system fairer

Read on in my other comments where I have said vehicle and caravan registration costs are charged according to size (& axle capacity).

Drivers of SUVs and pick-ups should pay more to be on our roads. Here’s how to make the system fairer

I do believe the type of vehicle registered is charged according to its size. All vehicles DO NOT pay the same registration costs and that goes for caravans as well.

Drivers of SUVs and pick-ups should pay more to be on our roads. Here’s how to make the system fairer

Just a bit wrong there. Our registration taxes pay a good part of the costs.

Drivers of SUVs and pick-ups should pay more to be on our roads. Here’s how to make the system fairer

Have you thought - that vehicle may be the second car in a family and, if there is a smaller one as well, it could be the small one is driven on longer distances to save fuel costs. It is not our opinion about who drives which type of vehicle to go shopping or drop off/pick up their kids. It...

Drivers of SUVs and pick-ups should pay more to be on our roads. Here’s how to make the system fairer

I agree with a lot of what has been said and also disagree with a lot. As the owner and driver of a Hyundai Santa Fe, I’d like to put in my 2 cents worth.. First let’s look at the way our roads are constructed and repaired - a week of rain & we find huge potholes because the road bases are not...

The $7 Bunnings cleaner everyone's using—you won’t believe all the ways it can transform your home!

It was around when I first came to Australia in 1965! Not a new product at all but this ‘spring chicken of a woman’ has decided it is her great find. Something for the ‘influencer mob’. I’m positive everyone on SDC will know about it and would probably have used it at sometime in their past.

‘It’s not cause for alarm’: Financial expert leaves advice ahead of superannuation changes

Tax is levied on what your superannuation earns (on your money), not on what has already been taxed. They invest your money & it earns interest - it is the INTEREST EARNED that is taxed, which is the same as us putting some money into a term deposit. That term deposit earns interest and the...

Roommate takes food, demands payment after unexpected medical reaction

He can demand all he wants - not the other guy’s problem. If the idiot wants to take his case up with a legal team he’ll be paying even more, so tell him to keep going with his demands & see how much it will cost him ultimately - medical bills, his health for stealing from a locked cabinet & the...

What was your go-to game as a kid?

Born & lived overseas until I was 22. We played a game called ‘Seven Tiles’. 7 flattish stones of varying sizes, built into a tower. One player stood ‘x’ metres away (yards in the good old days!!). Threw the tennis or other ball to try to knock the ‘tower’ down. If successful ran away & other...

Nationals MP reveals cancer diagnosis after noticing small detail

Maybe read again - it says MP and does not say PM.

A neighbour's kid was having fun in his yard... but he had to stand his ground - is it unreasonable?

My home, my property - not someone else’s to destroy. I wonder at the reaction if you’d have yelled at the kid to stop doing what he did and never enter your property again. His mother and he should have been made to rectify the dug up area to its former condition. Then this man could have told...

From Swimwear to $58,000 Weddings: Inside the ATO’s Outrageous Tax Deduction Hall of Shame

Why not try and claim toilet paper used at home so you don’t need to waste your employer’s work supply!!!!! Then see if they buy (or rather ‘pay’) that one . Daft is all I can say about the ridiculous claims mentioned in this article.

Finance experts warn Aussies about rising superannuation scams. Are you their next target?

There was a time we were getting unsolicited calls (many years ago). If we couldn’t see the caller’s name on our landline, we started answering with “City Morgue, how can I help you?” Or “City Morgue, would you like to book a freezer drawer?” That put paid to that!! Now we just don’t answer if...
