I do that as well. Also did it with base of celery plant. I was able to use some stems and leaves before it went to seed.

We recently dug up carrots and potatoes which we had planted. We also picked beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, spring onions and capsicums. What mostly made us feel wonderful was to look out our door and see colourful Marigolds growing in among the veggies as companion plants. Beautiful.🙂
