    SDC Trivia Game #450 - 18/08/2024

Re question 8; the lungs are the largest internal organ in the body. There is no doubt that the liver is the heaviest but with a capacity of about 6 litres, the lungs are much bigger than the liver at 1200-1500 ccs. Think: which is bigger, a 2 litre empty plastic water bottle, or a 750 ml bottle...

    SDC Trivia Game #445 - 13/08/2024

Re question 2; if Panama has a coast on both the Pacific and Atlantic, then so do Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Colombia. Technically, none of them do. The Caribbean Sea gets in the way. Canada, USA and, arguably, Chile are the only contenders.

More nonsense. Russia doesn't have a border with the Atlantic Ocean.

Terrifying home invasion turns violent: Three victims face head-chopping threat

Lots of very valid comments to this already but can't resist adding my own. What a terrifying experience for those people. I hope they catch the bastards and string them up by their short and curlies.

Banks urge millions of Aussies not to ignore this important email: ‘It was legit’

I haven't heard from my bank either but having been a customer for more than 40 years I would hope they have everything they need to know. I too would have suspected a scam and contacted the bank by a proven method.

Homeownership vs. retirement savings: Debate over superannuation access heats up

It doesn't seem like a good idea to me. When people retire they might own their house (or maybe still have a mortgage) then have only a state pension to live on. Good luck with that! You can't buy food and pay the bills with a house. Such a move might also further inflate the housing market.

It's not often you see a dog so unconcerned by a mouse on its head.

Police are questioning drivers about this obscure car feature - could you be breaking the law without knowing it?

Who ever looks at the gear pattern when changing gear? Better to keep your eyes on the road!

Residents Outraged: Find Out How North Sydney's Cashless Parking Could Affect You!

I am greatly in support of keeping cash for several reasons (charity collection, homeless on the street, children learning about money, garage and car boot sales, buskers, etc) even though I haven't had any cash in my pocket since the height of Covid. Tapping that bit of plastic on a machine is...

Exposed: How Qantas Left a Passenger Totally Humiliated – What You Need to Know Before Your Next Flight!

Disgraceful by Qantas. The customer should have been put first, especially this one. The staff member should have been given an economy seat. It was only Brisbane to Cairns after all.

'Judge me all you want': This psychologist never returns her shopping trolley for one reason

'How did your kids get to the shopping trolley safely?' another commenter asked Dobson. 'Did you leave them in the car alone and get the trolley? Or were they portable enough to make it without a trolley?' Good questions. Just do the reverse of picking up the trolley. Supermarket carparks are...

A cunning bank scam wipes out couple's $240,000 life savings—are your funds at risk, too?

Any time that I have large sums of money to transfer to a new payee, I always send a test run with a small amount of money, then check that it arrived correctly before sending the rest.

A cunning bank scam wipes out couple's $240,000 life savings—are your funds at risk, too?

It's really scary when the number called (133 464) is the correct number according to the contact number on the ING website but went to the scammers. Any of us could have fallen for that. ING needs to investigate how that happened and check the integrity of their website. Any time that I have...

Proposed bill aims to fine businesses and individuals up to $25,000 for refusing cash payments

It's primarily the Govt and banks that are pushing to go cashless. Children need cash to learn about money; homeless people on the street and buskers need cash; charity tin collectors need cash; a lot of older people prefer cash; car boot and garage sales prefer to deal in cash.

Lost in transactions: Widow’s family accuses Westpac of negligence over mysterious withdrawals

The family could/should have obtained internet access to the mothers' account and checked it frequently. Perhaps they could also have stipulated that withdrawals were limited to a much more reasonable amount per day or per transaction.

Lost in transactions: Widow’s family accuses Westpac of negligence over mysterious withdrawals

Possibly not the daughter. It's not clear from this report whether the bank verified her identity. It's possibly somebody who had earned the trust of the mother and is scamming her. The bank should have CCTV so that an enquiry can investigate such things.

My niece underwent what was meant to be routine abdominal surgery a couple of years ago. In the process it turned out to be advanced cancer and she died within a few months. We just don't know how this is panning out for Catherine. She needs time, and peace away from the media spotlight and...
