Want a discount at this café? You’ll need to mind your manners first!

This isn't new. Years ago, my friend owned a cafe. She had a large sign displayed which said, in effect, that the price of the coffee was dependent upon your attitude. And she wasn't joking. Regular patrons also had their own special coffee mug with their name on it which hung from hooks...

Couple slapped with hefty fine for seatbelt error - but there's more to the story...

It's amazing the excuses people will come up with to wriggle out of a fine. I don't understand why she had to slip her arm out of her seatbelt to adjust the visor - it seems a totally unnecessary manoeuver. As for the underwear shot, my skirt never rides up when I adjust my visor (and I am not...

Did this Aussie parking inspector commit an illegal road act or was it a misunderstanding? Here's what the council has to say

Re revenue raising. I have a relative who was a parking inspector for the city of Perth. When he got the job, he was told officially that there were no quotas and the purpose of the job was not to raise revenue. His function was to ensure that the maximum number of parking bays were available...

'Feeling Rejected': Grandparents Left Out of Intimate Wedding Celebration

Nobody can judge on this because we don't know anything about the family relationships or the relationship with the grandfather. My daughter and her (now ex) husband eloped because of the immense pressure that his parents exerted upon them to have a huge wedding when they only wanted a small...

Outrage on Air India flight: Man arrested for shocking behaviour

Me neither. My husband was sent to India for work. While there, he took a short internal flight with Air India. He brought back photos to show the some of the defects with the plane that he was able to observe: Most of the overhead lighting panels did not work. Many of the “fasten seatbelt”...

You won't believe the icky fact Dr Karl revealed about tea bags

It's not just tea - insect DNA is also in the herbs that we use, which means it is in a wide variety of foods we consume. And it's totally harmless. Our food is not sterile. With rare exceptions, it also contains bacteria, viruses, and heaven knows what else.

Who's really at fault? Outrage over ‘entitled’ Coles supermarket shopper's checkout complaint

You are only thinking of yourself. Some of us prefer to think of other people besides ourselves, such as our kids who need jobs. It is well known in the health industry that unemployment is detrimental to the health of the unemployed individual. Widespread unemployment has a negative impact...

Cardinal George Pell passes away following hip surgery complications

I would be very interested if you could provide proof of, or references for, your statement that "Bologna is where most doctors studied when Ausie was still a not much more than a penal colony", as I really doubt this is correct. Seems more like pure assertion.

Who's really at fault? Outrage over ‘entitled’ Coles supermarket shopper's checkout complaint

Exactly as I suspected - the claim there are no job losses is baloney ("Blind Freddy" could see that just looking around the stores - and yes, I am aware of the apparent contradiction) and that supermarkets/banks/etc are trying to force customers to use self-serve checkouts and online options by...

You won't believe this ingenious hack that lets you turn AAA batteries into AA ones

I do that too. Also, if your batteries run down and you don't have any replacements, you can often get a bit more life out of them by rotating them (i.e. turn them upside down and use them in a different slot to where they were before).

You won't believe this ingenious hack that lets you turn AAA batteries into AA ones

You won't get any "extra life". You get the convenience of the ability to use the wrong size battery but you actually get less battery life because you will use up its power more rapidly. It's a good hack in an emergency but should not to be used on a regular basis.

Police criticised for Facebook post of senior woman allegedly involved in theft case

"Judging from her body language, she's not a criminal". Gotta love the pseudo-scientists who think they can judge who is or is not a criminal by their body language.

Who's really at fault? Outrage over ‘entitled’ Coles supermarket shopper's checkout complaint

Re the comment that the push towards self-service is NOT costing people their jobs, I would be very interested to hear comments from people who have lost their jobs at stores like K-mart, Big W, Coles and Woolies because of "down-sizing". No joke, I went into Big W recently and it was extremely...

Cardinal George Pell passes away following hip surgery complications

Quotes by George Pell which demonstrate his indifferent, dismissive attitude to child sexual abuse by clergy: “It’s a sad story and it wasn’t of much interest to me. ..The suffering, of course, was real and I very much regret that, but I had no reason to turn my mind to the extent of the evils...

Cardinal George Pell passes away following hip surgery complications

It's not a question of whether the victims were believed, it's a question of what can be proved to satisfy the law, which tends to favour the perpetrator(s) and not the victim(s).

Cardinal George Pell passes away following hip surgery complications

Please check the original post before "spruiking" yourself - Suzanne (not Susanne) specified the Vatican as an ORGANIZATION, not as a CITY, so your examples are not relevant. A single organisation (the Catholic Church) is not at all the same thing as a city full of wealthy individuals.

Cardinal George Pell passes away following hip surgery complications

Well, a verdict is simply a conclusion based on what can or can't be proved in court and may be erroneous. A conviction doesn't mean he's guilty, and quashing the conviction does not mean he's innocent. The Royal Commission concluded that Pell turned a blind eye to paedophile priests...

Watch out: This little-known rule caught a traveller by surprise and almost cost her a whopping $2,000

After watching programes like "Border Patrol", quite honestly, I think our deterrents aren't severe enough.
