Californian Poppy

Many will remember Californian Poppy — that unmistakable scent that could fill a whole room! Back in the 1960s, it was a go-to for keeping your hair slick and shiny. Alongside Vaseline Hair Oil, Brylcreem, and Brilliantine, it was part of the daily routine for men who took pride in their polished look.

Back then, everyone oiled up and slicked back their hair — the shinier, the better! Sadly, products like this have mostly disappeared from store shelves today.

I can remember attending the Penola picture theatre in the 1950s. On entering all you could smell was Californian Poppy. My uncle was the local barber and it was the only brand he stocked

my father hated his curls so her plastered his hair down with this and when I had my first haircut at 16 years old the style was the ducktail ad I used it too.

Yes, I was a very young child but I remember my father using Brylcreem.
