Australian food stylist Caroline Velik has taken home gold, or rather, a spurtle at the World Porridge Making Championships in Scotland!

She won the ‘Best Speciality Dish’ category for her ‘Porridge Jaffles,’ featuring yogurt flatbread with bananas cooked in Bundaberg rum, wattleseed, and Davidson plum sugar.

Velik wanted to ‘bring the flavours of the Indigenous Aussie outback to Scotland’.

Thirty competitors from 14 countries participated, proving porridge is more creative (and competitive!) than you might think.

Thank you for the positive news. Its very refreshing after all the dramas happening lately.

Once again, another roundup of interesting stories. I’m particularly interested in the blood test for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a condition that I suffered with for a number of years, and I still suffer with extreme tiredness whenever I been stressed, or overdo things.
I don’t know about porridge competitions, ghastly stuff even though my husband eats it every morning.

Every one uplifting in its own way, even the porridge waffle, which will not be cooked in my kitchen. I would try it if served elsewhere.

Ted microwaves his traditional oats, I couldn’t face the sight of a messy saucepan early in the morning. I really must try it one day, I keep reading how great oats are for us, and it certainly keeps Ted going through til lunch.

I'm with Ted. Oats and berries in the microwave every morning, and lunch can wait until after 1pm.

The best brekkie you can have I cook mine in milk , a little honey and fruit.

Like the idea of there being a diagnostic tool for chronic fatigue syndrome. Fingers crossed that there will be one for fibromyalgia sometime soon. You stop telling people about these disease processes, where extreme fatigue is a major symptom. They don’t believe you

I hear you Helen, I’ve never totally recovered from Chronic fatigue syndrome, and still get very fatigued when I overdo things. I tend to say that I’m just tired, been doing too much clearing out stuff or something like that. Everyone seems to be tired, but if only they knew.
A test for fibromyalgia would be wonderful for everyone who suffers with it.

Mine goes in Greek yoghurt 😋
Greek yoghurt! It’s getting worse. Ted loves the stuff and has it on all sorts of things. Last Christmas when we were having our favourite desserts, our son reached for the cream, Ted for Greek yoghurt, our poor boy was horrified and said that dad didn’t deserve to share our yummy food if he was going to cover it in yoghurt. 😂😂😂
