Prep + cook time 35 min
Makes 72

Ingredients
1 medium onion finely chopped
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
500g sausage mince
500g ground beef mince
1 egg
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon BBQ sauce
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
6 sheets puff pastry
1 egg,extra, beaten lightly
2 tablespoons sesame seeds optional

Method

1. Preheat oven 220°C / 200°C fan-forced. Line oven trays with baking paper.

2. Combine onion, breadcrumbs, sausage mince and beef mince, egg, sauce and parsley in a large bowl.

3. Cut pastry sheets in half lengthways along centre of each pastry sheet. Place equal amounts of filling mixture along edge of each pastry, roll to enclose filling and seal. Cut each roll into six pieces. Place on oven tray seam side down. Brush with extra beaten egg. Sprinkle with sesame seeds..

Bake rolls in oven for 25 minutes or until golden and puffed. Serve hot with tomato sauce.

Notes

1. Uncooked sausage rolls freeze well for up to 3 months

2. If I have stale bread I will make breadcrumbs from that otherwise any breadcrumbs including panko works well

I also add one grated apple and grated carrot per 500g of mince, this was told to me by a farmers wife over 45 years ago, I also now use onion flakes instead of fresh onion, and every time my children and grandchildren are having a get together for any reason I'm enlisted to make the famous sausage rolls. I was at one birthday party recently and one of the guests said we only come for the sausage rolls

Thank you Suzanne and Heather - homemade is the best 👍

Oh dear Suzanne thankyou for this so popular Homemade Sausage Roll recipe. My youngest daughter just loves these kind of delicious Sausage Rolls. She says that the home made ones are always more flavoursome, and when you start to eat one, its hard to stop eating more. My daughter usually places a salad next to the sausage rolls with a good quality tomato sauce. Thankyou dear Suzanne. We almost forgot about these little golden gems. Have a beautiful evening. 🙏🦋
