Main Street in the ’60s

Step back to 1965 in Lake Cargelligo, NSW, where banners fluttered above the main street, Holdens lined the curb, and locals popped into the Monterey Café or the real estate office doubling as a stock and station agency. Captured on rich Kodachrome, this photo is a time capsule of a bustling rural town. Do you remember when main streets looked just like this? Share your memories with us!

Many small country towns do not look like this today. They have many closed and empty shops (especially closed up banks). A much more simpler life that was so community based where everybody knew each other and looked out for each other. Life is very different today.

I just loved that photo of the country town back in 1965. I dearly wish we could go back to those times. People were much happier. I do not like the world we are living in now.
