Councils across Australia have been ranked—find out if your local’s a champ or a chump!

Local councils across Australia have been scored by their own ratepayers—yet only one regional city claimed the top spot.

The results revealed a surprising winner, proving that smaller cities can sometimes outperform the big names.

And while some communities celebrated their council’s efforts, others were left at the bottom of the rankings.

Smart city tech platform Snap Send Solve released its latest community satisfaction report, analysing more than 13,700 survey responses and ratings from about 70,000 users.

The data, collected from incident reports, reflected how residents felt about their councils across key services including roads, parking, waste management and graffiti.

The City of Mandurah in Western Australia was ranked number one in the country, receiving a score of 67.4 per cent.

Closely behind was the City of Port Adelaide Enfield in South Australia, which scored 67 per cent.

Whitehorse, located in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, followed in third place with a score of 66.8 per cent.

By comparison, several New South Wales councils fell to the bottom of the list, with ratings hovering around 60 per cent.

The national average was calculated at 61 per cent, showing a clear divide between top-performing and struggling councils.

Melbourne City Council was the only major metropolitan council to secure a place in the top 20 list.

The report also highlighted how councils are benefiting from the Snap Send Solve app, which allows residents to photograph and report issues in real-time.

Problems such as potholes, cracked footpaths, overflowing bins and overhanging trees could all be logged instantly.

The system also reduced duplicate reports, saving money on labour and operational costs.

Glen Eira City Council in Victoria reported it avoided $88,000 in potential duplicate reports by using the technology.

Snap Send Solve said this not only cut unnecessary contractor fees but also streamlined council services for ratepayers.

Local councils aren’t just being ranked on performance—they’re also introducing new measures that can directly affect households.

One recent initiative focused on reducing upfront costs tied to housing and local infrastructure.

It’s another example of how council decisions can have a big impact on everyday budgets.

Orange Council would have sunk to the bottom. We have neglected roads, and a council that wastes money on unwanted art installations. The latest a Bee clock that one has to get close to, to try and work out the time.

Doubt if Queanbeyan Palerang would even make it into the worst category. Neglected roads, no services, rate hikes - but a brand new expensive building to house the council

Where is the list?

Yarra ranges council would have to be one of the worst. I’m glad we moved out of the area

Agree wholeheartedly.

So incompetent. I may not be allowed to say corrupt here.

Shoalhaven has been so bad for years, that we have a dedicated Shoalhaven Council Complaints site. It is flooded with complaints though not as many as the previous council.

Victor Harbor council wouldn't make it on the list, worst roads in SA, too much money spend on Whale Bone light posts in main street, mayor's only concern is new library & basketball stadium, rates are out of control.

OH, there is the famous water clock in Hornsby Shopping Centre that hardly worked and cost about 1 million dollars, yes that much. But some people still want it there because it is 'Arty' Arty farty if you asked me. I used to live near there and past it lots of times and only seen it work once.

I come from Braidwood originally, when we had a farm there.
Palerang Council are as useless as a bag of pigs rectums.

Armidale/Dumaresq Council is the worst I have ever come across.
Even the desk staff there are rude across the counter.
